San Diego Rescue Mission is Hiring a Director of Donor Development Near San Diego, CA

In our programs, we create a holistic approach to recovery and rehabilitation while ensuring that our programs are a safe haven for men, women, and children who have experienced homelessness.

The Director of Donor Development is this leader. They believe that donor relations is a ministry, that generosity is a gift, and that being a fundraiser is to actively bring God's Kingdom to earth through giving and relational partnership.

Because they believe fundraising is a ministry, they push themselves and others to serve in a way that models Christ's love. They dig deep emotionally and spiritually, lean into challenging situations and face conflict head-on because they have a growth mindset and desire authentic relationships with their team and partners.

This leader is self-motivated, a natural initiator, and a creative builder. They thrive on setting a pace that inspires others, including themselves, to be their best self. Their drive to honor God and play a critical role in changing lives in our community inspires them to be dedicated, committed, and an above and beyond team player.

They have experience with major gifts and donor relations so are able to teach from experience.

They aren't satisfied with the status quo but want to continually make quality improvements to their area of responsibility. They are willing to take risk and implement new ideas.
  • Embodies Our Mission- wide perspective beyond the specific program they serve. Remain mindful of the organization's Mission and Vision as a filter for all we do. They seek to do what's best not just for their team, but for the organization as a whole.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years full-time work experience in a fundraising, development or sales position that demonstrates successful donor and/or client cultivation. Should be familiar with the San Diego philanthropic community, Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of leading a team at a senior leadership level (director/vice president)
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred from any accredited university or college; work experience may be substituted.

  • Expert computer skills and ability in using Microsoft® operating systems, Microsoft Office®, and other database-type systems.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to exercise practical judgment, sensitivity, and creativity to changing needs and situations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.

Supervisory: Supervises a team of 5 individuals
