Salary Range: $18.00 - $22.00 Hourly

Description

SUMMARY

Peer Support Specialists use their own lived experience in providing culturally competent and trauma-informed services to youth and/or youth's family, with the intent of furthering the youth's treatment goals. The level of services provided is dependent upon each youth's/family's needs. Peer Support Specialists for the SPOT Program will be cross trained to provide skills training/rehab services.

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains a caseload of 10-15 youth/families at 30% productivity.
  • Participates as the family/youth advocate at meetings.
  • Provides culturally competent education and coaching to youth/family to help them better understand how the systems work, and the process of accessing community resources.
  • Locates, coordinates, and develops linguistically and culturally diverse informal and formal resources and networks for families in the communities where they reside.
  • Coordinates treatment with referring parties and outside resources including schools, psychiatrists, support groups, childcare, government assistance, family advocacy programs, and others as appropriate.
  • Provides culturally competent education and hands-on coaching to parents/foster parents/youth to help them manage the child’s behavior more effectively.
  • Develops and conducts Positive Discipline/Collaborative and Proactive Solutions training groups, family/youth support groups, and other psycho-educational groups and workshops as assigned by supervisor.
  • Triages crisis situations with team members, including doing basic risk assessments, safety planning, and connecting families to resources to maintain safety in the home, school, and community.
  • Promotes greater family/youth participation at the practice, program, and policy levels of the system of care, including advocacy within and across the system of care.
  • Documents services per applicable regulations and requirements (e.g., EPSDT, PWB).
  • Utilizes supervision, consultation, and training to provide high quality services in an effective manner.
  • Maintains strong commitment to CYFSOC principles in the services provided to youth and families.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintains clear, effective, and open communication with internal staff/programs and with community partners.
  • Maintains clear, effective, and open communication with group home/FFA staff.

Other:

  • Displays a commitment to anti-racism and engages in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within clinical work, the program, and the organization.
  • Fulfills all contractual, organizational, and Support Partner training requirements (e.g., CCBH, cultural competency, Privacy/Security, False Claims Act, applicable EBP training, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned by the QA/Lead Therapist or Program Manager.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Lived experience as a consumer or caregiver of a consumer of Children's Behavioral Health Services, Child Welfare Services, the juvenile justice system, or special education
  • High School Diploma
  • California Driver's License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • San Pasqual Academy Alum
  • Training in, and/or experience working with, youth and families, in foster care culture and trauma informed care, and experience providing culturally competent services to diverse populations
  • Associates Degree or higher level of education
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
