Description of Work:

4-Day Work Week (M-Th)

The Department of Inspections/Planning is seeking a Building Code Inspector to ensure the safe and compliant construction of residential and commercial buildings in Sampson County. This essential role involves conducting thorough inspections of buildings under construction, reviewing plans and specifications, and enforcing applicable building codes, laws, and ordinances.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of residential and commercial buildings under construction to ensure compliance with building codes, laws, and ordinances.
  • Review and analyze building plans and specifications to identify potential code violations and discrepancies.
  • Issue building permits and ensure that contractors adhere to approved plans and specifications.
  • Document inspection findings, maintain accurate records, and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to contractors, builders, and homeowners regarding building codes and regulations.
  • Investigate complaints related to building code violations and take appropriate enforcement actions.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest changes to building codes, laws, and ordinances.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with moderate experience in construction.
  • Possession of Level I Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing certifications.
  • Thorough understanding of building codes, laws, and ordinances applicable to residential and commercial construction.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with contractors, builders, homeowners, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in the use of relevant software and technology, including building inspection software and computer-aided design (CAD) programs.
