Position Title: Secondary Principal

Payroll/Personnel Type: 12 Month

Job #: 8258

Reports to: Network Superintendent

Shift Length: 8 Hours a Day

Union Eligibility: Not Eligible


Position Summary:

The Principal will be responsible for leading the transformation of a high school to achieve significant academic improvement and student success. The Principal will work closely with teachers, staff, students, parents, and the community to create a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth.


Essential Functions:

  • Leadership and Management:
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to improve academic performance and student outcomes.
  • Provide strong leadership and vision to inspire and motivate staff, students, and the community.
  • Collaborate with teachers to enhance instructional practices and curriculum delivery.
  • Implement data-driven decision-making processes to monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Create a positive school culture that promotes respect, diversity, and inclusivity.
  • Build strong healthy relationships with students, parents, and community stakeholders to support student success.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff.
  • Manage school resources effectively and efficiently to support academic programs and student services.
  • Lead professional development initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of teachers and staff.
  • Collaborate with district leaders to align school improvement efforts with district goals and initiatives.

  • Academic Improvement:
  • Analyze student data to identify areas of improvement and develop targeted interventions to address academic deficiencies
  • Implement evidence-based instructional practices and monitor their effectiveness in improving student achievement.
  • Support the development and implementation of rigorous curriculum and assessment strategies aligned with state standards
  • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their instructional practices.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:

  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to use data to determine the next steps of implementation
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Ability to effectively lead, work, and interact with others
  • Ability to facilitate restorative conversations
  • Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide feedback to staff alongside the principal


Experience
:

  • Proven track record of improving student achievement and school performance.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational leadership, preferably in a secondary setting
  • Strong knowledge of instructional practices and demonstrated knowledge of best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse team of educators.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Deep knowledge of restorative practices, social-emotion learning, and adolescent development


Education:

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field (required)
  • Valid Missouri Administrator Certification (required)
  • Candidates who will be eligible for a MO administrator license on or before July 1 are encouraged to apply and may be considered on a case-by-case basis contingent upon licensure
  • To be offered a contract as a principal with SLPS, candidates must have a full, valid and/or transferrable administrator license when applying. If you do not yet possess current MO administrator licensure, please upload a letter from your university that indicates that you will hold certification by June 30, 2024


Physical Requirements
:

  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree


Working Conditions and Environment
:

  • Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
