Saint John Regional Catholic School is Hiring a Dean of Students (EX) (2024-2025) - St John Regional Catholic School, Frederick MD Near Frederick, MD

Working under the direction of the Principal, the Dean of Students is a student support specialist responsible for managing student behavior and addressing students' needs in an age-appropriate manner. This position also includes other duties as assigned by the Principal.

The Dean of Students proactively collaborates with AOB and school administration, faculty, staff, and student families regarding student behavior, successfully manages student disciplinary issues, orders textbooks, and other student-related materials, and works to align academic resources with student needs. The Dean of Students also conducts proactive staff training to enhance approaches for promoting student success.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze student behavior in class and SJRCS-authorized activities and identify sources of problems and issues that may hinder student success.
  • Develop and enforce disciplinary procedures in accordance with AOB and SJRCS policies.
  • Facilitate communication between administrators, faculty, parents, and students to resolve or get ahead of behavior issues or concerns.
  • Receive referrals and consult with administration and faculty, along with students and parents to document, address, and resolve concerns and complaints.
  • Proactively supervise students and activities on campus and during SJRCS-authorized activities; instruct students in appropriate behavior.
  • Coordinate SJRCS-authorized student extracurricular activities, including but not limited to after-school clubs.
  • Work with the Principal to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for students.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate and timely records and reports.
  • Attend administrative meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and keep up-to-date with AOB policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant elementary/middle school teaching experience.
  • Master’s Degree in a position-relevant field, or eligibility and willingness to earn a relevant Master’s degree in a position-relevant field.
  • Active US-state-approved school administrative credentials or eligibility and a willingness to earn position-relevant administrative credentials.
  • Leadership skills to effectively work with administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • An appreciation for and understanding of the social, emotional, educational, and developmental needs of elementary/middle school children.
  • Support and uphold Catholic moral and social teaching and the mission of SJRCS (practicing Catholic preferred).
  • Employment is contingent upon acceptable results of a state and federal fingerprint background check, completion of VIRTUS Training, and completion of all necessary paperwork.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate with a growth mindset and seek opportunities for feedback.
