JOB TITLE: Lunch Aide
DEPARTMENT/BUILDING: Cafeterias
REPORTS TO: CULINARY MANAGERS & DIRECTOR OF FOOD SERVICE
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Help with meal preparation and distribution, assist in the cleaning of kitchen and cafeteria, assist students to ensure a fun and safe atmosphere during mealtimes

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Must have knowledge of food product compliance and food safety
Must have patience to work with children of all ages and developmental stages
Ability to work in a multicultural, urban setting and develop a rapport with students, staff, parents, and the school community
Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and/or walk, may be required to lift up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with preparing and serving meals
Operate point of sale system
Assist with kitchen and dining area cleaning duties
Assist with restocking food service lines between meals
Monitor and assist students during the meal time
Monitor and assist students during recess time
Develop safe and enjoyable activities to engage students during the meal time
Handle disciplinary issues that may arise in accordance with established protocol
Assemble students in an orderly manner to assist with efficiency as they move through the meal time routine
Closely monitor all activities during the meal time to assure good sportsmanship and safety
Attend professional development as required
Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent
Experience working with school age children preferred
Food Preparation and sanitation experience preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS:
School cafeteria environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature or issues related to cleanliness.

METHOD OF EVALUATION:
The Director of Food Service will evaluate this position annually. The evaluation form is available in the Human Resources and Labor Relations Department.
