OVERVIEW

S&B is actively searching for an Area Operation Manager to join our construction team in Houston, TX. This position will report directly to the Vice President, Field Operations Manager and will be responsible for the day-to-day assigned field operations for the Construction Division, implementing plans and policies to achieve overall corporate objectives that will assure maximum results. Will initiate and participate in developing work processes that are appropriate for project and construction operations. Will assemble staff positions and be accountable for them to effectively manage the work. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Will directly supervise various management personnel that are selected for construction operations. Will have indirect responsibility for all supervision assigned to the various projects including Project Managers on EPC work. Responsibilities will include selecting proper candidates, coordinating training requirements, and providing expectations and accountabilities to subordinates. Will be responsible for their career development.

EDUCATION

Business or Technical Degree is preferred, but will be weighted with experience. A High School Diploma is required. Additional training should reflect exposure to technical, human resource, business, management, and safety topics. Additional training in other areas would also be desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Must have extensive experience in the management of projects and construction. Advanced knowledge of the construction industry and company operations required. Extensive knowledge of financial operations, marketing, estimating, and employee relations required. Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and analytical skills a necessity. Must have experience working with contracts and legal issues.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assemble necessary management personnel to execute the work
• Assist in developing work processes for the construction organization
• Interact with appropriate counterparts and department heads to assure compliance with existing S&B policies and procedures
• Responsible for the overall performance of projects
• Personal contact with potential clients to acquire work
• Review and approve bid packages and proposals
• Attend and participate in presentations related to sales
• Interaction with clients on acquired work
• Compliance with all applicable laws, government agencies, and moral obligations for the company
• Overall responsibility for the safe execution of the work
• Serve as a sponsor for projects when necessary

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be proficient in the English language, both written and verbal. Must be able to speak to groups of S&B or client personnel as required, and will be required to participate in presentations. Must have the ability to read technical correspondence and manuals, procedures, and policies, and correctly understand their content. Must be able to develop appropriate business correspondence and technical presentations as required. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic mathematics skills are required. Must have the ability to prepare and analyze statistical data, financial reports, bid and pricing requirements, and other numerical data. Must have the ability to apply the concepts such as percentages, fractions, and proportions to practical situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, and balance. Lifting up to 50 lbs. is required. Vision must be clear at close and distance with depth perception and the ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment will be split between home office, field offices, and client operating facilities. Home office will have normal moderate noise. At the various facilities, there will be potential exposure to adverse weather conditions, loud noises, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
