    The PD Specialist is a crucial component of the Department of Professional Learning. The specialist helps to manage the many programs in the department, including badging, podcasting, coaching, onboarding, and more. S/he also plans and executes key events throughout the year: institute days, New Staff Orientation, Summer Academy, mentor training, among others. One essential, ongoing function of this job will be the coaching of district PD facilitators; in order to maintain a consistent quality across all RLAS professional learning, we must provide continual support and feedback to the specialists, coordinators, and building administrators who regularly provide PD. Additionally, the specialist will help to maintain systems and processes related to professional learning (i.e., state paperwork, Performance Matters, Canvas, etc.).

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including:
      • Effective, confident public speaking
      • Coherent, engaging workshop facilitation
      • Organized, productive meeting participation or direction
      • Clear, compelling writing, particularly in the context of advertisements, catalogs, and other promotional material
      • Ability to conduct coaching conversations
    • Creativity, adaptability, and innovation
      • Enhancing pre-existing ideas
      • Brainstorming new ideas and planning for their implementation
      • Changing course as needed, particularly when devising “Plan B”
      • Thinking with a growth mindset
      • Progressive attitude toward educational change, particular in the realm of professional learning for all school staff
    • Extensive knowledge of best practices in professional learning
    • Functional knowledge of adult brain theory (or willingness to learn promptly)
    • Functional knowledge of basic office technology (Microsoft, Google) and willingness to learn job-specific technology (Wrike, Canvas, Canva, Audacity, SWIVL, Performance Matters, more)
    Duties and Expectations
    • Supervision of ongoing professional learning initiatives (i.e., badging, podcasting, internal university, mentoring, peer observation, Canvas courses, walk-through forms and data, and more)
    • Management of institute days and key professional learning events (New Staff Orientation, Summer Academy)
    • Management of walk-through forms and system to target PD; regular mining and reporting of data
    • Expansion of existing administrator induction program and monitoring its implementation
    • Management of instructional coaching program, including training and working with coaches throughout the school year
    • Creation and promotion of video library, including identifying its many implications for professional learning
    • Working with internal and external providers of PD to ensure consistent quality; specifically, management of Presenter Academy and ongoing coaching of PD facilitators. This will include regular meetings and observations to improve the quality of PD conducted throughout the district.
    • Management of state paperwork and Performance Matters; upholding a district-wide process for professional learning
    • Will be required to work 10 additional days over the summer to plan and execute summer and start-of-year programs. Days will be determined by Administration and will be paid at the incumbent’s per diem rate.
    Primary Working Contacts
    Reports to and primarily works with the Director of Professional Learning; sometimes works with the Instructional Technology team on shared projects; works often with Teaching and Learning Team at large.
