Ronald McDonald House Charities is Hiring a Facility Maintenance Technician Near Corpus Christi, TX

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Position: Full-Time Non-Exempt

Shifts: M-F Hours flexible- 40 hours/wk; 24/7 on-call (as needed)

Brief Description of Organization:

Ronald McDonald House Charities South Texas is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that focuses on the critical needs of children by operating programs that provide families with access to pediatric healthcare during the stress and uncertainty of a medical crisis. Our mission is keeping children near the care they need so families can get better together.

Position Overview:

The Facility Maintenance Technician works directly with the Chief Operating Officer in maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for guests lodging at the Ronald McDonald House. Responsible for maintenance of facility and grounds while following policies, procedures, and standards set by RMHC STX.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned through CMMS.
  • Communicate with management and assist in monitoring all work being performed by outside vendors.
  • Promote a warm, friendly atmosphere for all families, volunteers, community workers, visitors and staff while visiting the House.
  • Responds to guest complaints, taking prompt and appropriate actions to resolve problems and ensure customer safety and satisfaction is maintained.
  • Consistently enforce house policies and rules.
  • Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as needed.
  • Communicate billing, operational and maintenance needs to appropriate staff members.
  • Remove trash, change out light bulbs, perform preventative maintenance for guest rooms to include wall/floor repair, touch up paint, minor furniture repair, tub caulking, tile repairs, appliance repair, minor electrical, minor plumbing, HVAC maintenance and repair, etc.
  • Work with outside vendors to perform preventative maintenance for ice machines, refrigerators, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, HVAC, guestrooms, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Perform minor laundry equipment repair, preventative maintenance on all exhaust fans and supply; monitor energy conservation; repair vacuum cleaners and any other small equipment upon request.
  • Complete daily grounds work as directed by Chief Operating Officer which may include trash/debris removal, sweeping and maintaining outdoor common areas, minor landscaping work and carpentry work as assigned. Perform weekly property tours of play area and exterior perimeter for debris and trash removal and maintenance needs.

Additional Responsibilities: -

  • Pay close attention to details with capability to oversee House operations and multiple areas simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Monitor and maintain all building systems and equipment and assure an accurate log is kept of work performed.
  • Communicate with management regarding requests for proposals and estimates provided.
  • Assist in maintaining files and business correspondence.
  • Assist in setting up for activities and events, including heavy lifting
  • Provide accounts receivable/payable information to vendors and outside contractors.
  • Explore opportunities to increase work productivity and work more efficiently.
  • Assure safety standards are used which comply with all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines.
  • Ensure safety and security of guests and house during shift.
  • Respond to emergency situations and know how to use all safety equipment.
  • Exercise good judgment in decision making and report issues to appropriate Supervisor.
  • Responsible for stocking and monitoring inventory of household supplies and consumable goods; communicates with Guest Services Dept., Housekeeping Dept., and keeps a current list of needs for Chief Operating Officer.
  • Maintain staff offices including disposal of trash and sweeping/vacuuming of floors as needed.
  • Monitor common areas including restrooms and kitchen and ensure proper functionality of all systems.
  • Maintains a clean and organized working space.
  • Greet the public, accept, and show gratitude for any type of house donation, give house tours and answer questions related to all aspects of the house and operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and delegated.

Education & Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
  • Ability to operate computers, general office machines, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to operate power tools and outdoor power equipment as required.
  • Candidate must be highly dependable and responsible.
  • Positive attitude, pleasant demeanor, appropriate dress required.
  • Spanish speaking skills beneficial.
  • Must be able to work scheduled shifts, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Must be available to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Must be willing and able to drive or obtain alternative transportation between RMHC programs and offices for external meetings, donor meetings, etc.
  • Punctuality and reliable attendance are required.
