Ensures the Rockford Park District's parks are safe, clean, and enjoyable through proper maintenance and operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned


Operational Excellence

  • Receives and completes daily work orders as directed.
  • Performs maintenance duties to the buildings, grounds, and equipment according to required specifications for safety and appearance.
  • Performs routine cleaning of building, floors, windows, restrooms, carpets, trash removal, grounds, sidewalks, and trash pick-up
  • Maintains the park area by trimming trees, clearing brush and landscaping the property as required.
  • Effectively and safely operates pole saw, table saws, band saws, drills, string trimmers, landscape blowers and other hand tools as required to get the job done.
  • Basic painting including picnic tables, trash cans and shelters
  • Ensures that all work performed is conducted in a safe and timely manner adhering to standards of cleanliness and effective equipment utilization.
  • Utilize the Rockford Park District's HRIS system for all HR and payroll-related requirements and to accurately clock in and out for all shifts.
  • Assists with delivery of supplies to various buildings

Safety/Inspection

  • Become thoroughly familiar with the Safety Manual contents.
  • Performs frequent routine safety checks on buildings, grounds, and equipment; files safety reports as required.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all general and departmental - specific safety rules.
  • Inspect work areas (use checklists) for compliance with safe work practices and rules.
Education/Experience

High School Diploma or GED

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Ability to follow direction from Maintenance Supervisor
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
  • Ability to provide customers with expert care, sensitive consideration and efficient service.
  • Good communication skills including expressive, written, and receptive.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (can be obtained through the Rockford Park District)
  • Reliable transportation to and from work
Physical Requirements

Heavy work:

    • Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally
    • Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently
    • Exerting in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to perform moderately physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Exposure to Dirt
  • Potential Exposure to hazardous chemicals (training on working with said chemicals will be provided)
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, and equipment hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
