The Director of Legal Services leads our team of lawyers and paralegals who make that possible. As a key leader within Rocket Legal Professional Services, Inc. (RLPS), they are tasked with leveraging Rocket Lawyer’s innovative technology and operational efficiency to reduce fulfillment costs while enhancing quality and responsiveness.

At an organizational level, the Director of Legal Services is responsible for managing our participation in programs that are innovating the use of alternative business structures and other regulatory reforms to expand access to justice. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, monitor, and evaluate the performance of legal professionals serving Rocket Lawyer’s clients
  • Own and optimize day-to-day operational requirements to ensure expert fulfillment of Rocket Lawyer’s Ask a Lawyer Service
  • Manage innovative programs that expand the ability to provide direct legal services. This may include drafting and tracking applications, providing progress reports, and communicating with government agencies and representatives
  • Design onboarding programs that ensure positive, enthusiasm-building learning experiences for legal professionals who join the RLPS team
  • Develop and provide regular training and educational activities to assure high levels of competency for the RLPS team of attorneys and paralegals, both on staff and those working on a contractual basis
  • Work cross-functionally with Rocket Lawyer colleagues to ensure that professional legal services are well-marketed and supported with solid customer experiences on all Rocket Lawyer platforms and applications
  • Work collaboratively with the Rocket Lawyer Operations teams to ensure prompt and effective resolution of legal concerns raised by Rocket Lawyer customers and prospective customers
  • Understand supply/demand trends/plans and collaborate cross-functionally with others on the Rocket Lawyer staff and with business and product leaders to ensure RLPS is staffed appropriately in all geographies and practice areas
  • Track the performance of legal services to ensure all key business metrics are met or exceeded
  • Develop talent management programs that retain top-performing legal professionals 
  • Oversee documentation and credential management of staff attorneys and paralegals, both when newly hired and annually
  • Persistently analyze the effectiveness of RLPS programs, using feedback from both customers and staff 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable internal processes
  • Provide thoughtful and meaningful input on departmental and organizational goals
  • Participate in or lead other projects as needed by Rocket Lawyer and RLPS leaders
Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 10 years as a licensed attorney in good standing with an impeccable reputation for integrity
  • At least 5 years of practical management experience over a staff of legal professionals (attorneys and paralegals)
  • Graduate of an American Bar Association-approved law school
  • Experience in legal teaching is a big plus. This can include serving as a full-time or adjunct law school faculty member or as the leader of one or more accredited Continuing Legal Education courses
  • Proven capacity to remotely manage and lead a staff of legal professionals 
  • Experience attracting talent, managing performance, and achieving positive results with a staff of legal professionals
  • A record of administering quality measurement programs and identifying and addressing performance gaps
  • Ability to build trust, foster strong working relationships, and collaboratively work with stakeholders of all levels, positively influencing outcomes
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to distill and convey information in a concise and compelling manner
  • Demonstrate robust organizational and managerial abilities, and adeptly handle a broad range of requests and responsibilities
  • A strong work ethic disciplined execution skills, and proven record of delivering powerful results
