Rochester Iron & Metal is Hiring a Heavy Crane Operator Near Elkhart, IN

 

Job Description

Crane Operator is responsible foroperating heavy equipment, including cranes, excavators, loaders, to move and dismantle vehicles and equipment. You will also be responsible for watching the scrap pile for upgrading, sorting, and assuring nothing other than scrap is dropped offIt will be important to make sure the pile is organized, safe and kept as clean as possibleYou will work closely with our salvage team to dismantle vehicles and equipment, salvage parts and scrap metal, and prepare materials efficiently and safely for transport.Loading trucks will be prioritized before all else.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment, including cranes, excavators, loaders, to move and dismantle vehicles and equipment.

  • Follow all safety guidelines and regulations for the operation of heavy equipment and work in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Assist in the dismantling of vehicles and equipment, salvage parts and scrap metal, and prepare materials for transport.

  • Maintain equipment in good working order by performing routine maintenance and repairs as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance.

  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate professionally with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in operating heavy equipment, including cranes, excavators, loaders, and bulldozers.

  • Experience in salvage yard operations preferred.

  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and regulations for the operation of heavy equipment and work in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with co-workers and supervisors professionally.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crouch, and kneel for extended periods of time.

  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate heavy equipment and tools.

  • Good vision and hearing ensure safety while operating heavy equipment and working in a noisy environment.

  • Physical stamina and endurance to work in all weather conditions and for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, as needed.

  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
