As part of the management team, the director of finance must have strong leadership, management, technology, analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills. What you get to do every day - Direct, review, and prepare financial planning and budget management functions - Review and maintain budgeting and forecasting models - Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget - Assist in establishing short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures - permanent, train, and retain finance staff - Adhere to local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements - Oversee daily operations of the finance and accounting department - Perform financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions - Work with department managers to develop five-year business plans - Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance - Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the departments goals and objectives - Oversee the preparation of all financial reports - Take ownership of insurance and risk management - Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts
