Robert Half's new Controller opening will give you the opportunity to take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department at a successful company. Based in the Fremont, California area, this opening for a Controller is a permanent position. In this role, it will be critical for you to plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. In this role, it will be critical for you to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Your responsibilities in this role

  • Maintain and document accounting policies and procedures, and controls.
  • Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit and Collections, and Taxation.
  • Prepare and generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that are accurate, complete, and timely.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and year-end analyses as necessary to include capital investments, and contract negotiations for corporate insurance.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Aggressively pursue cost improvements through process, procedure, and methods control.
  • Coordinate and support external auditors for the annual financial audit and serve as a liaison. Successful audit with clean opinion is required.
  • Maintain internal control to ensure compliance with the company's financial goals and objectives.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Evaluate performance, training needs, and assist in career development for the Accounting Department staff.
  • Provide assigned exempt and non-exempt staff with guidance and leadership towards achieving departmental and company goals.
  • Develop budget for Accounting Department and oversee the staff to meet organizational objectives. Ensure that Budget is set realistically and attained.
  • Forecast future departmental or group needs including human and material resources and capital expenditures.
  • Develop and or identify new work processes that will have broad applicability throughout the department.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with 10 years of directly applicable experience
  • 7 years of management experience
  • CPA is strongly preferred, MBA/CMA a plus
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with ERP systems and Excel
  • Manufacturing industry experience
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate with all levels in the organization, including senior management.
