Roanoke Development and Housing Authority is Hiring a Maintenance Technician Near Roanoke, VA
Some of what you would do:
- Routine plumbing, appliance, electrical maintenance in apartments
- Cleaning and painting vacant units before leasing
- Routine grounds keeping maintenance
- Process standard work documents such as work orders
- Upholding local public housing community standards
- Complete assigned training to maintain knowledge and skills in apartment repair and maintenance
- Perform routine care, cleaning, and repair of shop tools and equipment
- Maintain a safe and clean workplace following all company policies
- Operate small tractors, air-operated tools, chain saws, backhoe, bush hog, etc.
- Operate company vehicle to move equipment and materials
- Keep buildings and grounds clean and orderly, sweep, mop, clean and wax floors, dust, clean and polish furniture, clean windows and glass surfaces, dispose of trash and debris, clean office rooms, common areas, sidewalks, parking lots.
- Assist in moving furniture and cleaning vacant housing units.
- Maintain lawnmowers and small tractors.
- Perform general custodial tasks including but not limited to changing light bulbs, smoke alarm batteries, snow removal.
- Work in a weekly on-call rotation with other Maintenance Technicians including overtime in evenings and weekends when on-call, and during inclement weather events.
To be successful you will need:
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment and materials used for groundskeeping/landscaping, maintenance and repair of homes/apartments
- Working knowledge of planting, trimming trees and shrubs, cultivating lawns and plants, and safe practices with riding lawn mowers, tractors with mowing attachments, wood chippers, chain saws, tree trimmers
- Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely around the public and children
- Ability to identify repair work needed and communicate maintenance needs
- Ability to work well with others as a team
- Ability to learn and handle more complex laboring or trades work assignments
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a mid-day one-hour unpaid meal break
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned work on schedule
- Ability to work under supervision receiving instructions and feedback, coaching and counseling, and/or corrective action
