Roanoke County Public Schools is Hiring a SUBSTITUTE - TEACHER/INSTRUCTIONAL ASST. 2024-25 Near Roanoke, VA

QUALIFICATIONS:
"Degreed" Substitute Teacher- Must provide verification of Bachelor's degree through a final college transcript.
"Non-Degreed" Substitute Teacher- Minimum of High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be 18 years of age to substitute in the Elementary and Middle Schools.
Must be 21 years of age to substitute in the High Schools and Burton Center of Arts and Technology.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    • Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
    • Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
    • Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
    • Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
    • Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
    • Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures. Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
    • Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
    • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
    • Report for duty 10-15 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  2. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  3. Leave detailed notes for teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
  4. Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or the Substitute Office.
APPLICATION PROCESS OVERVIEW:
1.Submit Online Application:
• Complete all sections of the online application.
• Ensure that all tabs of the application are filled in before submission.
2.Background Check:
Upon approval of the online application by Human Resources, you will receive an email notification with background check tasks.
• Promptly complete the required tasks, including scheduling a Criminal Background Check appointment.
3.Substitute Onboarding Tasks:
After successful clearance of the background check, you will be assigned a Roanoke County Public Schools (RCPS) email address and substitute onboarding tasks.
• Log into your RCPS email account.
• Complete online tasks in Laserfiche.
4.In-Person Substitute Training:
Upon completion of all onboarding tasks, you will be notified of the next substitute training date.
• Attendance at this training is the final step for approval.
Additional Information:
• References must be professional, from individuals who have supervised you in a work environment. **References from family or friends will not be accepted.
• The RCPS School Board has approved payment of $150 to individuals who successfully complete all steps of the Substitute Onboarding Process. and Substitute Training.
