Job Summary: The Operation Manager is responsible for ensuring that terminal staff have required and needed resources to complete daily tasks and meet customer expectations. The Service Center Manager manages all operational and administrative aspects of a terminal ensuring profit, increasing customer and driver base and maintaining terminal office and yard. The Service Center Manager is also responsible for all transportation equipment owned, leased or in the terminals possession.
Essential Functions:
· Markets the company image; develops surrounding area by understanding geography, customers, and potential
· Prevents unnecessary company charges or liabilities
· Manages profitability through minimizing expenses and maximizing service center revenue
· Monitors all service center spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with budget
· Solicits new business, provide rate quotes and negotiates rates,
· Responsible for Transportation Employees, PWV, Owner Operators and Company Drivers weekly Payroll and settlements.
· Monitors Fuel’s National Average – sets and passes along the weekly charge
· Ensures on-time delivery of pick-ups/deliveries
· Works hand in hand with Paperwork Verification (PWV) to ensure all loads are closed out correctly in a timely manner to insure proper pay and invoicing
o Resolves issues pertaining to the major functions of the service center (Payroll, dispatch, safety, etc.)
· Supervises all associates within the service center and ensures that they have all the tools necessary to complete their given tasks
· Maintains good rapport with all drivers and associates
· Prepares timely reports regarding service center activity (weekly, monthly, as needed)
· Ensures all drivers are compliant and up to date with all required DOT and company safety items
· Ensures all equipment owned, leased or in the terminals possession are up to date with all required DOT conditional and safety items.
· Maintains close relationship with Regional Safety Manager along with Corporate Safety Department regarding
o Terminal Security
o Accidents, Incidents and Near Misses
o Random Drug Testing
o New hires, Orientations and Terminations
· Communicates with Warehouse manager regarding Guard Service to ensue all terminals have proper security measures in place at all times 24/7
· Effectively trains all new hires on the position they will fill and the duties that come along with that position
· Communicates with Road Drivers to ensure efficiency and safety during travels
· Maintains organization and cleanliness within the terminal being sure to follow all landlord regulations
· Aids in any associate relations investigations that could be affecting the service center
· Develops knowledge base of all parts & equipment vendors
· Communicates with customers regarding freight appointments and any problems or issues
· Maintains good rapport with all customers and develops relationships with new customers
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree preferred and at least 3-5 years experience in a management-level position
· Experience in the transportation, intermodal or logistics industry required
· Experience in the automotive industry preferred
· Strong problem solving and reasoning ability
· Excellent communication, both written and verbal; strong interpersonal skills required
· Ability to work under minimal supervision
· Ability to work under time pressures and make quick, knowledgeable decisions
· Ability to read and interpret business reports and daily logs
· Ability to adapt to many different situations dependent on the customer/associate needs
