Specific Job Description:

RMSL is a growth company with an outstanding job opportunity for a Technical Manager position. The Technical Manager is a subject matter expert and is an integral part of a small cross functional team managing a small group of direct reports and working on exciting research and development and testing projects with cutting-edge technology. In this role, the ideal candidate will have experience with dynamic testing of energetic materials, detonation physics, conventional and novel energetic material formulation, and laboratory analysis. This individual must demonstrate innovation, an understanding of the fundamentals of engineering, an ability to learn, out-of-the-box thinking and creativity.

Duties

  • Overall technical management and execution within technical focus area.
  • Work with company leadership to define technical objectives, processes, security, policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Explain technical process implementation to fellow team members.
  • Technical training/mentoring of technical staff
  • Resolve technical-related problems within area of expertise.
  • Validate technical deliverables.
  • Assist the Program Manager in the successful implementation and execution of project activities.
  • Conceive, plan, design, and conduct advanced studies to support research and development.
  • Investigate and develop new procedures; summarize data and analyze results, independently formulate conclusions, and determine future experiments or ventures.
  • Interact/coordinate with other groups and functions to support RDT&E.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new technologies.
  • Develop technical strategy from project inception to completion.
  • Ensure all technical solutions meet the specified requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, innovation, and dedication in a team-oriented environment.
  • Represent RMSL at technical conferences/trade shows.
  • Help lead technical proposal writing and business development efforts within technical focus area.
  • CONUS travel to support program initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, workload, and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of relevant field to solve unique problem(s).
  • Fully competent in all Microsoft Office Suites

Must have relevant experience in one or more RDT&E areas:

  • Conventional and novel energetic material (explosive, pyrotechnic, propellant) formulation/synthesis
  • Dynamic testing (high-speed data instrumentation/video setup and analysis) of energetic materials (i.e., safety and performance testing)
  • Detonation physics
  • Laboratory analysis of energetic materials (analytical, small-scale safety)
  • Energetic material manufacturing and process scale-up
  • Development and application of novel armaments/munitions
  • Additive manufacturing (AM)/hazardous process automation/artificial intelligence development

Desired Skills

  • Experience working for commercial (for profit) companies.
  • Published author in above technical areas.
  • Budget development and program management.

Required Education and Experience

  • MS in Science/Engineering 8 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Science/Engineering 5 years of relevant experience

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, employees may work in conditions that require the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e., steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. The work environment may also require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, and sitting.
