RLM Underground was established in 2016 and specializes in underground telecom construction projects throughout the Midwest. RLM has rapidly grown at staggering rates leading to an expansion of its construction and operating capabilities and into being a full-turnkey telecommunications contractor. Over the years, RLM has expanded its operating region, opening offices in Central Kentucky and Central Illinois while focusing on smaller Telco providers throughout those regions. 

Position Summary:

RLM Underground is looking for Telecom Construction Laborers/ Ground Hands. In this role you will support all phases of utility construction for various types of telecom projects. Duties will include general labor duties related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor. Services may include placing poles, anchors and guys, aerial strand and cable, direct buried pipe, trenching cable, conventional and directional boring, placing underground conduit systems, performing inside wiring, cabling, and testing and maintenance services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Installation and maintenance of underground telecommunications cabling.
• Hand digging using shovel and directional digging utilizing mechanical tools.
• Operates or works around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Working in congested or remote areas.
• Maintains visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
• Perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor.
• Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.
• Learn all aspects of crew and assist the operator and foreman as assigned.
• Setup, preparation, and cleanup of construction sites.
• Develop an understanding of buried utilities.
• Lift heavy equipment and supplies.

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time, hourly position expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including; extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $18.00 - $22.00 based on experience

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle history check.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Maintaining a good driving record is required.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus (Higher wage scales applies to CDL holders).
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, etc.
• Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee will need to be able to regularly lift up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
