POSITION SUMMARY

Performs routine laboratory testing to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

This position provides care for or assistance to patients of all ages, including newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience 

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): Successful completion of NCCLS (CLSI) approved program of Medical Laboratory Technician. Associate’s Degree in science or equivalent from a two-year college.

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT): Bachelor’s degree required; Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Physical, or Biological sciences acceptable.

Certification by ASCP, AAB, or equivalent required within one year of the hire date.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• May perform moderately complex procedures without supervision of general supervisor after orientation checklist is completed.
• May perform highly complex procedures as designated by the general supervisor after orientation.
• Performs phlebotomy as needed.
• Maintains all instrumentation and performs quality control as indicated. Assures that department policies and procedures are followed in all tasks.
• Collects and transports samples from other patient areas.
• Safeguards security and confidentiality of data/information according to HIPAA guidelines.
• Assumes responsibility for self-development and completion of mandatory education requirements.
• Enhances customer service by demonstrating polite, cooperative, and respectful behavior to internal and external customers.
• Carries out duties safely and uses safety devices provided to protect self and others. Reports safety hazard as appropriate.
