POSITION SUMMARYThe clinical pharmacist is responsible for performing pharmaceutical care activities that include application of clinical pharmacy principles for all surgery patients. Provides pharmaceutical care to all patients in a timely and efficient manner by:
Ensuring appropriate medication therapy
Collaborating with members of the health care team
Managing therapy for medications with a narrow spectrum of safety
Dispensing medications accurately
Maximizing drug access and efficiency utilizing Omnicell hardware
Systems
EPIC optimization and maintenance
Medication delivery (pumps)
Omnicell
Clinical reporting
Compounded Sterile Preparations (CSP)
Maintain annual competencies
Performs stage checking and final checks for technician prepared CSPs
Ensures compliance with applicable United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards
Clinical Responsibilities
Reviews surgery patients medication regimens
Performs home medication reviews
Serves as a resource for medication therapy
Participates in medical emergencies, such as codes
Monitors and adjusts medication therapy based on clinical criteria
Verifies medication orders for surgery patients
Provides information on medications and drug therapy to health professionals, staff, and students.
Maintains up to date clinical knowledge to aid in providing the best patient care.
Collaborates with other areas and departments for clinical and technological enhancements.
Omnicell cabinet configuration
Omnicell Anesthesia Workstation configuration
Coordinates and works with other team members to ensure that the workflow is efficient and effective.
Upholds safety standards and prioritizes patient and staff safety.
Adheres to applicable pharmacy laws and regulations as well as to established facility and departmental policies.
Within the Pharmacy Department, assists in:
Committee involvement as needed
Maintenance of Pharmacy policies, protocols, and procedures as needed
Assumes responsibility for completing mandatory educational requirements.
