We are looking for a Senior Coordinator - Operations to lead a team of control room specialists operating the Kennecott smelter. The Senior Coordinator’s focus is to lead the safe, efficient, and sustainable production of copper.

At Rio Tinto we have operations across the globe including a range of open pit and underground mines that supply copper and diamonds. Our copper operations supply products in China, Japan and the US which plays an important role in almost every home, office and vehicle. We are also one of the world's leading diamond producers and the largest producer of natural colored diamonds.

This role is a great opportunity to joins the ranks of management at a copper smelter. Reporting to the Manager – Productivity and Control Room, you will be:

• Driving zero harm behavior as a safety leader at the smelter
• Lead a team of five control room specialist working on rotating shift on the Dupont schedule
• Manage the growth and development and perform performance reviews of control room specialists. Participate in the recruitment of new specialists
• As the most senior person onsite during off-shift, responsible for ensuring work is being performed safely and lead the troubleshooting, prioritization and escalation as issues arise
• Effectively communicating and coordinating with peers from within the team, different departments, and different parts of the value stream to safely meet production and quality targets
• Identifying areas for improvement within the control systems and process to maximize efficiency

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• A High school diploma or GED
• 5 years of experience in mining, processing, manufacturing or a related field
• Prior supervisory and control room experience
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• A Bachelor's degree in a related field
• Prior experience working in a Collective Bargaining Agreement environment

Where you’ll be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
