JOB TITLE: Senior Corporate Accountant
OVERVIEW:
The Senior Corporate Accountant performs complex accounting functions within the Corporate Accounting department that is responsible for the consolidated general ledger, month-end close process, consolidation, and preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Responsible for preparation of accounting transactions, journal entries, financial statements, reconciliations, and analysis; prepares significant estimates, reserves analysis, calculations, and research. Assists in the preparation of internal and external financial reporting, variance analysis, executive reporting materials and assists with audits.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· According to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, assists in the preparation of standard and specialized financial reports (i.e., balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, equity roll-forwards) and performs complex accounting functions and financial analysis to account for and summarize current company financial position at both the consolidated level as well as the financial subsidiary level
· Responsible for preparing and analyzing specific areas of accounting such as Accrued Liabilities, Capitalized Interest, Debt amortization, Payroll entries and accruals, Fixed Assets, Prepaid Expenses and Other Assets, Leases, SG&A, Rebate Revenue, Interest Income, Investments, and various other corporate accounting areas
· Prepares journal entries, reconciliations, consolidation steps, analysis, SOX files, IPE for internal controls, top-side, elimination, and intercompany journal entries as well as other reporting for monthly close of subsidiary and consolidated level results utilizing Blackline and Oracle E1 accounting systems
· Prepares monthly analytics and flux analysis for SG&A, Income Statement, and Balance Sheet items as compared to prior year results and budgets for internal reporting as well as various ad-hoc reporting projects
· Responsible for certain subsidiaries full financial books, including coding payables, preparing/reviewing journal entries, accounting for and closing of monthly books, and reconciliations for entities such as the Airplane Company, Healthcare/Flex Company, MDC Foundation and/or the Corporate Entity
· Assist in audits and preparation of reports for auditors and ensuring that internal controls are maintained according to SOX and company accounting standards and policies
· May assist in reviewing reconciliations performed by staff and mentoring staff including areas such as cash transactions, corporate level bank reconciliations, investment bank account reconciliations (including amortization of discount/premiums, adjustments to FMV, calculation of accrued interest) and other areas of the balance sheet.
· Assists in preparing all consolidated and corporate level reports (i.e., balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, equity rolls, etc) for the executive quarterly reporting binder
· Assists divisions and other corporate departments (i.e. tax, internal audit, treasury, etc.) with requested operational or financial reporting and analysis as needed
· Performs analytical work querying databases within Oracle E1, Oracle BI and TM1 database applications for analytical data and preparing analysis and reports for management as needed and on an ad-hoc basis
· Prepares Borrowing Base calculations, Bank Book, and other covenant reporting analytics
· Reviews company-wide T&E expenses for reimbursement and adherence to company travel policies as well as assists in review of certain AP invoices for proper GL coding
· Assists in other areas of accounting including Sales and Use tax reconciliations, unclaimed property reporting, related parties reporting, and economic census reporting
· Identify ways to streamline department processes and/or process improvements
· Performs system maintenance including community setups and charts of accounts maintenance
QUALIFICAITONS:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
· Licensure: Active CPA license required
· 3-5 years progressive accounting experience, including audit experience (Big 4 preferred) and/or mix with industry experience. Experience with public accounting, audits, SOX, Corporate accounting and consolidations preferred. Experience with GL accounting software such as Oracle, Blackline, Workiva and TM1 financial reporting a plus
· Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and auditing
· Must be detail oriented with a proven ability to manage and meet deadlines, work independently, problem solve and make decisions; Ability to learn accounting systems and the job quickly, adequately skilled in Microsoft Excel applications (i.e. Pivot Tables, Vlookup, IF Statements, etc.) and be able to do ad-hoc report building by querying databases and preparing analytics
· Calm and collaborative demeanor, team oriented, have natural curiosity, eager, willing to help other team members
· Analytical, inquisitive, and skeptical mindset, able to analyze accounts beyond mechanics, apply judgement and reason, and maintain internal controls while assessing their effectiveness in compliance with annual audits and SOX
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop relationships at all levels of the company. Good interpersonal and time management skills necessary
