About the role

Location: Chicago, IL

A director of financial planning and analysis (FP&A) focuses on the organization's financial planning, forecasting and analysis activities. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in accounting and finance, with significant experience in a management role. Advanced degrees such as an MBA and certifications like the CPA or CMA are preferred. This role requires advanced strategic thinking and communication skills, as the director of FP&A often collaborates closely with senior leadership. This position will not only manage and oversee preparation of monthly forecasts, annual budgets, long term plans and related variance analyses, but also will provide financial consulting and strategic support to senior management including preparation of financial presentations, capital investment decision analysis, performing industry/peer group comparisons, and special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the annual budget and monthly forecast process, the overall financial planning process, provide recommendations and analysis to support decision making and strategic planning.

  • Manage the preparation of monthly financial reports.

  • Direct all aspects of strategic plan, budget, reports, and financial processes.

  • Streamline month end close process to align actual results with forecasting and budgeting and increase accuracy of budgeting and forecasting.

  • Build financial models to provide analyses and projection of business profitability and operational efficiency.

  • Standardize, validate data, and develop reports and maximize automation - e.g. Price, Volume, Mix, margin analysis.

  • Partner with senior leaders and finance teams to support/drive new business decisions (across the organization).

  • Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses and capital expenditures.

  • Analyze monthly financials in tandem with the Financial Controllers with focus on the operations.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required and MBA and/or CPA preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience. M&A experience is a plus.

  • Strong experience in FP&A roles.

  • PeopleSoft, NetSuite or similar ERP experience. Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint. Oracle Smart View experience is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Proven track record for driving process efficiencies and problem solving.
