Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart is Hiring an Upper School Social Studies Teacher Near Houston, TX

Description

Summary:

The Upper School Social Studies teacher is a committed Sacred Heart educator who has a strong commitment to educating students in Modern World History and other related disciplines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement appropriate curriculum based on the National Standards, World History Content Standards, the course syllabi, and a focus on all levels of High School Social Studies, including Advanced Placement.
  • Be an active member of the Social Studies Department by attending meetings, developing, and updating course curricula for core as well as elective courses, and supporting the work of the department.
  • Plan, organize, and lead activities designed to promote academic, social, and emotional development in a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Supervise an US Advisory group. 
  • Create an emotionally responsive, caring, positive, and accepting environment supportive of the individual development of each child and family.
  • Supervise children and ensure a safe and loving environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and other areas of the campus.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.
  •  Attend staff meetings, serve on committees as required, seek and attend professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluate each student’s growth and performance.
  • Provide constructive feedback to parents.
  • Prepare and distribute report cards online.
  •  Desire to learn and grow professionally.
  • Experience with debate is a plus.

Requirements

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required

In the performance of his/her duties, Employee shall be guided by the Goals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart and the Catholic Faith. 

Candidates must also possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Teaching Certificate
  • High level of competence using technology
  • Experience in a PreK–12 environment, preferably in independent schools is a plus.
  • Strong references to convey teaching abilities.
  •  Successful completion of criminal offender record information and sexual offender registry information checks
  • Completion of Virtus: Protecting God's Children training
  • Current CPR certification

  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Adherence to all personnel policies, procedures, and rules contained in the Duchesne Faculty/Staff Handbook

  • Possess strong people skills in order to be empathetic to children’s and parent’s needs.

  • Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, professional courtesy, discretion, punctuality and attendance at all required meetings and events. 
  • Appropriately carry out specific duties as determined by the Head of School and/or supervisor. 
  • Maintain professional credentials and complete required training.Participate in and provide documentation for at least one professional development opportunity per year in addition to those required and provided by the school.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the school, its employees, students, and families. 
  • Comply with the policies and procedures as articulated in the faculty and staff handbook. 
  • Authentically engage in the school’s self-reflection process that requires written goals and measured progress towards them.
