Job DescriptionAccounting ManagerWell established, secure and successful publishing company located in Blair, Nebraska is seeking a strong Accounting Manager to join our team. Position OverviewPerform accounting work in the preparation and maintenance of financial recordkeeping and reporting. Duties And Responsibilities
Develops a basic knowledge of technical matters and the company’s technical policies and procedures.
Reconciles bank accounts and traces discrepancies.
Reconciles subsidiary accounts to control accounts.
Records daily transactions to subsidiary journals and posts to general ledger using a computer software program.
Posts and monitors payroll, manage and prepares 1099’s.
Prepares and files sales and other local taxes returns for all relevant states and countries. Apply for and maintain new business licenses and sales tax registrations for doing business in other states as required
Records property and equipment and calculates depreciation and amortization using a computer software program and generally accepted accounting principles
Oversees account receivables and payables and assists in timely processing.
Prepares other schedules, account analyses, worksheets, and projects.
Represents companies in payroll and insurance related audits.
Prepare all monthly/yearly financial statements for both internal and external uses according to generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares all financial statements as requested by management
Oversee inventory, responsible for quarterly and yearly physical inventory counts, perform monthly analysis of inventory turnover and works with bookstore to ensure proper inventory level is maintained
Track and maintains sub journals for deferred income and prepaid expenses
Monitor and maintain company credit cards including auditing of expenses and receipt
Understands and handles the filing of workpapers and documents pursuant to company policy.
Refers unanswered questions in accordance with company procedures.
Acquires basic knowledge of business concepts and practices.
Makes suggestions to improve internal procedures (procedures / practices) and frequently updates the written procedures for the accounting department.
Works to develop consistency in work product, showing a basic understanding of technical concepts.
Seeks opportunities to contribute to the company’s services and processes utilizing personal strengths and attributes.
Assists CEO with financial reports
Knowledge, Skills And Characteristics
*Must have minimum of 2 years experience with QuickBooks Online.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft and other service area-specific desktop operating and application software.
Basic understanding and application of professional standards.
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including processing payrolls and reports, general ledger reconciliations, financial statements, and the keeping of financial accounts and records.
Attention to detail.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and understand basic accounting principles.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and clients.
Ability to follow directions and determine when more information is needed.
Basic organizational skills.
Skill in using research software.

Willingness to work increased hours during backlog and peak work cycles.

Education and ExpertiseBachelor's degree in business or accounting or equivalent experience in accounting activities. Physical Requirements
