As part of our evolution, the North America Region is a cluster of over one thousand diverse Thoughtworkers in the United States and Canada, delivering significant revenue and leadership contributions to the Company. 

Thoughtworks is looking for a Head of People to become a strategic partner for the North America Leaders across our business units (Markets, Service Lines, DEC, and Global functions). The Regional Head of People will be a trusted advisor aligned with the Region and accountable for delivering the end-to-end People agenda within the global framework of the People Operating Model, while supported/enabled by our CoEs and Shared Services solutions. 

The Regional Head of People will lead a team of Talent Business Partners that sit in the US and Canada, and that will wear a dual hat, with both an eye on providing geographic based support and advisory, as well as Talent partnership to our vertical lines of business within the region. 

Additionally, the NA Head of People manages an Organizational Development Specialist to help mobilize high-impact and lasting change programs in the region.

The NA Head of People will also be the matrix manager for the NA People Operations Leader (who is a direct report to Global Head of People Operations) and the NA L&D Leader (who is a direct report to the Global Head of Talent Development). 

The role is also responsible for working alongside the Global Talent Strategists: these senior leaders have global accountability for our Markets, Service Lines, DEC and Global functions and work in conjunction with the Regional Head of People to ensure global strategy is shaped and implemented in their region. (Note that Global Talent Strategists report to the Global Head of People)

Job responsibilities

  • At the highest level the RHOP will drive three core sets of needs.They will drive close alignment with, enabling of, and support to the Business with a laser focus on driving organizational performance for the Region. The RHOP will
  • Be the key responsible individual for end-to-end People and Talent solutions for the Region, in partnership with, and leveraging global teams and solutions. This includes the entire employment lifecycle, from onboarding, to rewards, recognition and compensation, growth and development, employee engagement and DEI initiatives, all the way to organizational effectiveness and design.Take a regional approach to skill and capability building, ensuring the needs of the region are well supported. 
  • Build diverse regional Talent Pipelines. The RHOP will facilitate the process to identify, develop and deploy top talent, in partnership with the local TBPs, that responds to core business needs around verticals, service lines, or DEC core skills for the region.
  • Performance Management. The Regional HOP will be a key driver for our shift to a performance-driven culture. They will do this by 1) ensuring a strong, predictable and business-oriented performance process in every country in alignment with regional priorities; 2) driving the broad and consistent implementation of the globally aligned process, and 3) leveraging centrally provided key metrics to drive execution.
  • Ensure there is focus on leadership effectiveness and development for all of the regional leaders and functions, partnering with the Regional leaders in a systematic assessment and support for the growth of our most senior leaders within the Region. Support geo expansions & M&A activity in the region in partnership with the CoE.
  • They will ensure globally aligned people processes and practices are implemented to drive enterprise scale-ability, transparency and consistency. To help drive scale and improve the People function’s effectiveness globally the RHOP will
  • Function as a change agent for the region with responsibility and accountability to manage people-related change in the right way. The role has autonomy to balance the needs of the region with the requests and strategic direction from the CoEs to ensure a cohesive programme of change.
  • Provide the voice of the Countries by monitoring the prevailing sentiment and needs of employees to better ensure local requirements are met while confirming regional needs are appropriately reflected in the Global team’s roadmap. 
  • Drive regional operationalization of Global programs and solutions and Ensure adoption of Shared Services while simultaneously holding our CoEs accountable for outcomes and Ensure adoption of Shared Services while simultaneously holding our CoEs accountable for outcomes
  • Develop, coach and mentor members of the North America People team, ensuring appropriate focus and attention to their growth and development. 

Job qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 10 years of progressive experience in HR, preferably in large global companies in the Technology and Professional Services sector. 
  • At least 5 years in a leadership role supporting a large Line of business or a regional client group.
  • Experience leading change across the People agenda, including project management, communication and change management of multiple initiatives as part of a significant global change agenda.
  • Excellent knowledge of US and Canada HR laws and Talent best practices, and the ability to mentor others through technical knowledge and ability to inspire a team to deliver extraordinary impact

Professional Skills

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, especially in a highly matrixed environment that intersects large Global organizations with a Regional operational structure. 
  • Experience as a People leader, especially leading other HR/Talent Business Partners to support the business goals. 
  • Influencing skills and advocacy for getting to the right solutions that balance People and Business needs.
  • Ability to adapt to fast paced environments and show resiliency in ambiguous situations.
