Description

Job Summary: Having successfully managed their personal addiction, the Peer Support is a highly specialized and intensive member of the treatment team. The Peer Support will assist in implementing intervention projects, developing individual plans for recovery, and creating/increasing buy-in and engagement.

Essential Functions:

  • Help clients maintain sobriety through example, outreach, suggestions, network of resources, etc.
  • Maintain own personal recovery success and role model practical coping skills and ways to overcome barriers
  • Provide a bridge between service providers and clients that facilitates the medical and psychosocial care of the client by serving as an advocate and maintaining client relationships that fosters trust and understanding distinct from a provider role
  • Encourage, model, inspire and empower clients to set recovery goals and achieve them
  • Collaborate with Agency staff as a component of coordinated care for clients to create a warm and welcoming experience to Agency services
  • Educate and orient clients to the rules, policies, procedures and practices they need to follow to increase the chances of successful recovery
  • Link clients to community system of care that will advance progress in recovery goals such as: prevention services, family supports, primary care, recovery support, treatment, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), and faith-based as well as community-based interventions
  • Help clients access services for physical health, emergency health care, behavioral health care, criminal justice and child welfare by accompanying them to appointments and/or arranging for transportation as needed
  • Protect clients' right to privacy and confidentiality in the handling of records and communication of client information
  • Uphold the Recovery Code of Ethics and the Organizational Ethics Code of the Agency with special emphasis on maintaining confidentiality and boundaries within dual relationships
  • Document each client interaction in the agencies Electronic Health Record (EHR) as required
  • Have frequent and regular (scheduled and un-scheduled) meetings with each client to review progress toward recovery goals, including making modifications to goals whenever appropriate
  • Teach and assist clients in skills of daily living, in both group and individual settings with topics such as: personal hygiene and dressing for success, transportation resources, navigating health insurance, getting along with others, finding needed services (housing, employment, education, treatment, worship, etc.).

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities sufficient to perform essential functions
  • Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Personal success of at least one year in recovery
  • First hand understanding of specific issues and available resources related to sober living
  • Valid Ohio driver's license, acceptable driving record and reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Computer proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Peer Recovery Support experience and Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and standing, bending and moving.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

Business hours generally Monday through Friday, however some evening & weekend hours may be necessary to meet all client services / programs. Position may also be required to respond to emergencies (on-call) depending on program / level of care.

***Covid-19 and flu vaccination are required***

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Travel: Transportation of clients and travel in personal vehicle within the community may be required
