The Under the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Funding, a Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) is a veteran who can use their own lived life experiences to help others (peers) participate in services to promote overall wellbeing. The PRS empowers veterans and provides a holistic, strengths-based approach to peer support and suicide prevention. The overall goal of the PRS is to ensure high quality participant support throughout the duration of services in the program with a secondary focus to connect with new organizations to engage new clients through outreach and education. In conjunction with other program staff, the PRS aims to connect with at-risk veterans and reservists in order to mitigate psychosocial stressors and reduce suicide risk factors. The PRS activities include one-on-one and groups to engage and retain clients though in-person and virtual settings. The delivery of service and documentation will be in accordance with Veterans Affairs SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, Ohio Department of Mental Health, VOA policies and procedures. 

  • Work is in-person and virtually
  • Travel to sites in Ohio and Indiana is required (not sure frequency)
  • Evening hours may be necessary to meet needs of clients and community
  • Obtain and maintain certification through OMHAS

Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma; an Associate’s degree is preferred. Must be a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable. A valid Driver’s License and clear driving record are required. Knowledge and proficiency in issues related to mental health.
