Ramsey County, MN is Hiring a Remote Lifeguard (Temporary Opportunity - Beaches and Battle Creek Waterworks)

Basic Function

The current vacancies are in the Parks and Recreation department. The eligibility list created by this vacancy may be used to hire other vacancies in the department or County.

Lifeguards now starting at $19.70/hour!

This position will monitor a beach or pool area, enforce rules and regulations, provide first aid, prevent and respond to emergencies, and perform other duties as assigned.

Recertification:May 18 at Edgewood Middle School (5100 Edgewood Dr, Mounds View, MN 55112)

Ramsey County Parks and Recreation is hiring lifeguards for Battle Creek Waterworks Aquatic Center and Lake McCarron. Lifeguards play an interactive role in patrolling our pool and beaches, enforcing rules and regulations, providing first aid, opening/closing facilities, providing light facility maintenance, and preventing and responding to emergencies.
The Waterworks season will begin on June 8 - August 18, 2024.
The Beach season will begin on June 8 - August 11, 2024.
If an internal candidate is selected, salary will be set in accordance with the personnel rules (i.e. promotion, transfer, or voluntary reduction).

Examples of Work Performed

  • Monitor public beach or pool to oversee activities and respond to emergencies.
  • Prevent and respond to water emergencies and injuries.
  • Provide first aid, CPR, oxygen or defibrillation and notifications to other emergency personnel as necessary.
  • Respond to inappropriate and dangerous behaviors by informing guest of the facility rules and coordinating with enforcement personnel when necessary.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the beach or pool area to ensure that the facility is in a safe and usable condition.
  • Clean the guard room, public bathrooms, and the beach or pool area by picking up garbage, mopping, sweeping, and raking and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist beach, park and pool guests with questions, problems, or other concerns.
(The work assigned to a position in this classification may not include all possible tasks in this description and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks in this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required.)

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Sufficient to perform duties.
Experience: None.
Substitution: None.
Licensure/Certification:Certification is not required to apply. Training is available. Current certification from a nationally accredited Lifeguard Certification Program (i.e. Ellis and Associates, Red Cross, StarGuard, and/or comparable program.)
Other:
BEACH Lifeguard - Must be at least 18 years of age or older or a High school graduate or equivalent.
WATERWORKS Lifeguard – Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous lifeguard and customer service experience.

Exam/Screening Process Information

All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and properly complete an application will be forwarded to the hiring department/manager for consideration for this temporary position. Temporary appointments work up to a maximum of six months. Candidates chosen for hire into a temporary assignment will not gain any rights or preferences for other permanent, Ramsey County positions.

Each case is considered on its individual merits and the type of work sought. However, making false statements or withholding information will cause you to be barred from employment, or removed from employment.

This means that Ramsey County will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
