Railinc is Hiring a Project Manager Near Cary, NC

Reports to: Director, Architecture and IT PMO

Job Accountability/Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Development of scope statements, project plans, WBS, schedule, communications plan, quality management plan, risk response plan, procurement management plan and procurement documents and statement of work for efforts to upgrade or replace infrastructure.
  • Gather requirements and develop a business case for project portfolio management, including high level estimates.
  • Create project plans; budget, issues list, action items, status reports as well as adhere to internal project methodologies.
  • Release Planning.
  • Conduct DR/BC exercises and tabletops for the company.
  • Ensure the DR/BC documentation is up to date and valid.
  • Provide updates to Senior leadership on the status of the program.
  • Work with teams, IT and Business to ensure knowledge transfer for the DR/BC program
  • Ensure the project delivers agreed-to scope within the committed timeframes and budget.
  • Manage, integrate, and balance resource requirements across multiple projects without adversely impacting deliverables, timelines or quality.
  • Work with resource managers and other project managers to identify project team, estimate activity durations and costs and hold project kick-off meeting.
  • Identify and resolve project issues and risks, including tracking, escalation, and mitigation.
  • Schedule outages to provide the least business impact and ensure system changes are announced to internal and external Railinc customers.
  • Work with application support organizations to analyze effects of application changes on the overall capacity and performance requirements of the environment.
  • Understand technical, information and solution architecture viewpoints of the IT strategy and work with Enterprise Architects to implement the strategy.
  • Lead effort with technical resources within IS&S to develop implementable designs. Ensure those designs are reviewed with Engineering and Architecture teams.
  • Work with resource managers to complete and authorize work packages.
  • Measure and report project performance and status, identify and control changes.
  • Participate in Statement of Work process as requested by Partner Manager.
  • Perform lessons learned.
  • Document existing processes: identify ways to incrementally improve internal processes
  • Provide program management for disaster recovery and business continuity to include preparing for and conducting various tabletops, exercises, and drills. Preparation involves working with all levels of the company to ensure they are prepared for a business disruption.
  • Partners with product managers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure success of the product/functionality being developed and expectations being managed
  • Provide assistance to the Infrastructure operations departments as needed for managing resources during maintenance windows and Root Cause Analysis of infrastructure related incidents.
  • Report project progress to senior management and stakeholders, identifying issues and resolutions.

Knowledge, Skills, abilities/minimum requirements/competencies:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Project management capability with a strong understanding of project management concepts.
  • Ability to provide strong leadership and motivation to project teams if and when necessary.
  • Understanding of the relationship between business activities, application systems and the corporate technical infrastructure. Ability to determine impact of system and/or infrastructure changes to the business, and vice versa.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to relate at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Possess the highest level of integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced cross-functional development environment.
  • Proficient on Excel.
  • Manage reports (weekly/Monthly/quarterly) as required.
  • Process auditing: Create and manage processes needed for governance.
  • Works under heavy deadlines and is subject to extreme workloads.

Education, experience, certification/training:

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Computer Science, Data Processing, Business Administration, Accounting or Finance. Work experience in information technology in a business environment may be considered equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a project management and/or technical infrastructure resource role in a corporate information technology department.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of the following, preferred:
    • Web-based application and database environments and related products
    • Data networking and communications including network security, firewalls, LAN, VLAN, WAN, and wireless networking design, implementation, and optimization.
    • Project management experience in IT infrastructure preferred.
    • Experience with disaster recovery/business continuity program management and conducting tabletops and exercises preferred.
    • Experience managing environments in the cloud.
  • PMI certified.
  • ABCP or CBCP certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work: Assignment involves sitting at workstation (desk) most of the time (up to 8 hours) with only occasional walking and/or standing.

Keyboarding: Primarily using fingers for typing.

Talking: Expressing or communicating verbally through use of spoken words (accurately conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to others).

Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.

Visual: Through close visual acuity, required to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading (with or without correction).

Environment: Work is performed within an office setting and therefore there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat, cold, noise, etc.).
