Radio Free Asia is Hiring a Digital Content Producer I, Uyghur Service Near Washington, DC

The Uyghur Service is actively seeking a multimedia professional with expertise and enthusiasm for overseeing digital content and social media accounts. In this position, you will collaborate closely with the editorial team to pinpoint stories ideal for digital platforms and work with designers or independently to create appealing content suitable for various digital platforms, with the aim to expand the outreach of the content and deepen engagement with viewers. You will also be tasked with researching stories and information from different sources, and creating compelling original stories in digital formats. This is a full-time position based in Washington DC, we welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

Primary Responsibility:

Digital Content Production:

  • Collaborate with the editorial team to identify newsworthy topics for digital content and provide guidance and ideas on approaches to visual storytelling.
  • Produce visual content in Uyghur, including but not limited to videos, reels, graphics, based on assigned stories, interviews conducted independently, and information gathered.
  • Researching information online and from other relevant news sources – including archival footage, photos, public records, and government data – to support and enrich the digital content produced.
  • Oversee the presentation and standards of digital content on various platforms, ensuring they are optimized and tailored for each platform.
  • Collaborate with editors and multimedia designers to plan and execute special report and projects.

Social Media Management:

  • Spearhead the Uyghur Service's presence on various social media platforms by devising and implementing strategies and day-to-day management of RFA Uyghur social media channels.
  • Apply superb editorial judgment to identify news content suitable for social media platforms, collaborating with team members to produce native social content, including stories, reels, graphics, charts, and other visual treatments, adopting various digital platform formats and packages.
  • Foster growth and engagement of the Uyghur-speaking audience across different social media and digital platforms, responding to inquiries and moderating comments as necessary
  • Stay updated on industry trends to identify innovative tools and processes in social media and audience engagement.
  • Perform other assigned duties, including the ability to substitute for teammates when needed.

Qualification:

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in creating and managing digital content, ideally for a news organization; experience in digital journalism is highly desirable.
  • Academic Credential: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Required language skills: Native fluency in Uyghur is a must, with good proficiency in English.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current political, economic, and social conditions in Uyghur communities, as well as its culture and people.
  • Experience with graphics software such as (Canva),
  • Strong proficiency with social analytics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and third-party social management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to edit video using Adobe Premier and After Effects
  • Proven writing skills for social media and short social media video combining still images, graphics and video to effectively tells news stories
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound news judgment and discretion in evaluating news stories
