Overview:

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our team at Monks Construction. The Project Accountant will be responsible for financial management and reporting for various construction projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of financial information. This position will work closely with project managers, financial analysts, and other stakeholders to support project success.

Responsibilities:

1. Project Financial Management:

  • Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and costs to ensure adherence to financial plans and profitability targets.
  • Review and analyze project contracts, change orders, and billing terms to accurately capture project revenue and expenses.
  • Prepare project financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and variance analyses to support decision-making and risk management.

2. Cost Accounting and Analysis:

  • Track and analyze project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Maintain cost control systems and processes to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate financial risks.
  • Perform cost reconciliations and cost-to-complete analyses to assess project performance and forecast final project outcomes.

3. Billing and Invoicing:

  • Prepare and review project invoices in accordance with contract terms, billing schedules, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers and clients to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure timely payment collection.
  • Maintain accurate billing records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.

4. Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for individual projects and consolidated company financial statements.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement in project performance and financial health.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial presentations and reports for internal stakeholders and external parties.

5. Compliance and Auditing:

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies in project financial management and reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and assistance as needed.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard project assets and ensure financial integrity.

6. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with project teams, accounting staff, and other departments to resolve financial issues and achieve project objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding project financial matters, status updates, and key performance indicators.
  • Provide financial expertise and support to project managers and stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

- 3-5 years of experience in project accounting or financial management, preferably in the heavy civil construction industry.

- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, cost accounting methodologies, and project finance concepts.- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
