The Position

The Director of Category Management at Quench is a pivotal role requiring strategic foresight and operational expertise. The role is designed for a leader who excels at crafting go-to-market (GTM) strategies and taking charge of the operational execution necessary to bring those strategies to life in the marketplace. The Director of Category Management will identify and develop new product, customer, and service solutions that drive growth and profitability, aligning closely with the company’s strategic directives.

The Director of Category Management will collaborate with the VP of Product Marketing and the Executive Leadership Team to pinpoint and evaluate new business opportunities across various verticals, channels, and business models, with an initial focus on commcerical ice markets and products. This role requires a hands-on approach to defining potential product solutions and supporting the development of robust, effective GTM strategies.

Post-strategy development, the Director will assist in the general management of specific categories, contributing to strategic decisions that impact the performance of the targeted category(s) and being accountable for meeting performance targets and goals aligned and set with the leadership team and other joint stakeholders. They will oversee the end-to-end rollout of new products and customer solutions. This includes leading cross-functional teams and working with department leaders across Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, Service, Supply Chain, and IT to ensure effective execution and value delivery. This dynamic position demands a leader who is not only strategic but also a pragmatic manager capable of driving results and achieving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Development

a. Lead the assessment and identification of new business opportunities across different verticals and channels, focusing on innovative product solutions, customer engagement, and service enhancements, with an initial focus, but not limited, on commercial ice solutions

b. Distill and cascade vision and objectives of new Product/Solutions strategies and vision for leadership and other internal and external stakeholders.

c. Understand product use cases, customer journeys, business applicability and impact of each use case, working closely with other Product, Direct and Indirect Sales, Product Management, Care, and Service leaders as well as our customers

d. Understand Quench’s different products and services, capabilities, and technology to understand where we have a right to win and create the “right” solutions for each vertical.

e. Define product/solution requirements and roadmaps including things as feasibility, effort, financial impact (revenue / cost savings) and strategic value.

f. Develop comprehensive GTM strategies and execution plans for product development, positioning, and market entry, collaborating with the VP of Product Marketing and other senior leaders to align on goals and execution.

2. Operational Management

a. Assist in the general management of the category post-GTM strategy development, contributing to strategic decisions and supporting initiatives that impact category performance and profitability.

b. Lead cross-functional teams to ensure seamless and effective market introduction and ongoing management of product categories. This includes driving initiatives across Product, Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, Service, Supply Chain, and IT.

c. Monitor category performance against financial and operational targets, making strategic adjustments as necessary to drive business growth and customer satisfaction.

3. Leadership and Collaboration

a. Serve as a primary point of contact for all stakeholders involved in the category management process, from internal teams to external partners and customers.

b. Champion a culture of success and continuous improvement, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation.

c. Celebrate team achievements and facilitate shared accountability in the delivery of project outcomes.

Requirements

· Must have

o Proven ability to lead the strategic development of product/service solutions and assist in the operational execution of category management, contributing to defined goals and targets

o Extensive experience in developing GTM strategies and executing detailed marketing plans that have led to successful product launches, showing tangible market growth and profitability, and sustained market presence.

o Demonstrated success in managing complex product solutions including solid planning, priority setting, and project management skills with experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders in a dynamic business environment.

o Strong analytical skills and a value-oriented mindset to effectively manage a category strategy and GTM plan.

o Demonstrated ability to formulate and articulate comprehensive business cases for new products and solutions.

o Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven track record of influencing business or marketing strategies through competitive analysis, market awareness, and product positioning.

· Must be:

o Highly motivated and innovative, with a resilient and energetic approach to reaching solutions and achieving business goals.

o A strong collaborator, comfortable working across diverse teams and capable of fostering multi-functional thinking.

o An effective communicator, adept at developing relationships across various operational, technical, sales, and marketing teams.

o Skilled in analyzing data, interpreting results, and leveraging findings to identify opportunities and drive decisions.

o Comfortable with shared accountability for project outcomes, demonstrating integrity, honesty, and a commitment to learning from mistakes.

o A pragmatic problem solver with a track record of identifying and executing new solutions for complex business challenges.

o Effective at time management, prioritizing tasks based on strategic value to drive the best outcomes for the business.

· Preferred experience:

o Minimum of 10 years of business experience in category management/ product marketing roles

o Proven track record in project management, product positioning, and marketing strategy

o Experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders

o Knowledge of Internet, ecommerce, and database applications

o BA/BS degree. Advanced degree and/or MBA desirable.
