The candidate that is chosen will support the Behavioral Health Division’s 300 facilities of UHS nationwide.
The Division Director of Risk Management is a key corporate position that provides consultation, direction, and oversight of risk management activities for the Behavioral Health Division of UHS. The position is multifaceted; providing administrative consultation, supervision, and direction to the Regional Risk Department staff when complex patient safety situations arise, and responds to such situations. The position is also a strategic role by serving as a member of the PsychSafe Patient Safety Organization Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSO PSES) Workforce - a federally listed Patient Safety Organization (PSO). The position directs organizational efforts in collection, management, and analysis of Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP). The position is responsible for the oversight of incident reports and probable claims within various database systems. The position supervises the performance of patient safety assessments of assigned facilities to ensure compliance with an internal source document directly impacting the care, safety, and welfare of each patient population served.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Provide risk related consultation and necessary resources in the implementation of risk reduction initiatives at the division level. Act as a resource for Regional Risk Managers, Senior Regional Risk Managers by effectively guiding and directing Regional Risk staff in conducting proper incident investigations as an opportunity to improve patient safety
  • Provide direction and support to Regional Risk staff for research, design, development, implementation, and monitoring Patient Safety Advisories, resource policies, disseminating information regarding patient safety, such as recommendations, protocols, or information regarding best practices
  • Effectively direct a department of 20 FTEs
  • Produce monthly webinars on risk related topics and present at annual conferences
  • Participate in division level performance improvement and patient safety initiatives within the Corporate Patient Safety Council
  • Directs, monitor, and analyze facility Performance Indicator results, serious adverse events, for the purposes of evaluating and trending to identify opportunities for improving patient safety at a division level
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years' experience in healthcare organization(s) with increasing responsibility in risk prevention and risk management with progressive achievement.
  • Clinical nursing degree and RN license required with knowledge of Behavioral Health healthcare facility operations, functions, and staffing requirements
  • Knowledge of insurance and loss control theory and principles and procedures for the investigation and processing of professional liability/medical malpractice claims
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field strongly preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of risk identification and prevention techniques. Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Knowledge of medical/professional staff by-laws and governing board issues
  • Highly developed organizational, interpersonal, management and communication skills required.
  • Experienced presenter with strong skills in oral and written communication and proficiency in Microsoft Office is required
  • This position requires frequent travel 25-50% travel
