Quality Dairy is Hiring an Assistant Manager Near Lansing, MI

  • This is a Full Time Position
  • Open Availability is required

Our mission is to work as a team, taking responsibility in building loyalty with our customers and our co-workers, to exceed expectations providing product and services that combine high quality with integrity and to assist all internal and external customers to assure that their needs are met in a “Customer Service Plus 1” manner.

Position Summary:

Assist the Store Manager to deliver Customer Service Plus 1, increase sales and maximize profit. Train, develop and direct team members while enforcing company policies and procedures. Maintain inventory, labor and other controllable items within acceptable limits. Present a store that is safe and well maintained internally and externally. 

Job Duties:

  • Assist the Store Manager in all aspects of managing the store
  • Ensure Customer Service Plus 1 is the number one priority
  • Train, develop and coach team members to ensure customer service and maximize customer satisfaction
  • Recognize and follow through on training and development needs, set goals and coach to achieve
  • Prepare and review performance appraisals, ensuring they are up to date, fair, motivating and accurate
  • Attend to employee concerns in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Communicate upcoming events, promotions and changes
  • Ensure policies and procedures are understood and followed
  • Assure that work schedule is posted in accordance with policy, store needs, employee requests/abilities and allotted hours. Anticipate staffing needs and monitor/document attendance
  • Ensure team members and customers are treated fairly and consistently and that the environment is free of harassment/discrimination
  • Record payroll accurately and submit all information and paperwork (including schedules) to payroll in a timely manner
  • Maintain company/employee records in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Monitor inventory on hand, ensure adequate supply to grow sales with minimum returns
  • Evaluate all factors affecting inventory needs including local preference, seasonal needs, holidays, special events or promotions, dates and rotation of merchandise and competition
  • Ensure policy compliance on product handling, rotating, facing, stocking, vendor check-in, handling damaged goods, maintaining freshness and cooler temperature levels
  • Analyze reports to spot sales trends, unusual shift activity or store problems and take appropriate action to improve or to continue success
  • Ensure compliance of cash handling and reporting; i.e. shift close outs, daily close outs, store summaries, deposits, price changes and register audits
  • Control, minimize and accurately record store expenses such as supplies, products for store use and utilities
  • Ensure internal and external store presentation is attractive, well maintained and clean
  • Ensure internal and external store areas are kept free of safety hazards
  • Follow policy for safeguarding keys and other company assets
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with alcohol, safety and health related policies
  • Ensure register procedures are followed and money levels are maintained appropriately in each register
  • Demonstrate high standards for dress and hygiene
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding store and employee information
  • Follow and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws
  • Set priorities for time management, follow through on assigned tasks and demonstrate urgency

Essential Skills, Abilities and Physical Demands:

  • Demonstrate desire to learn and improve
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to identify problems and formulate and execute a plan for resolution
  • Ability to motivate, develop, and train team members
  • Ability to effectively use computer and calculator
  • Required to stand for long periods of time, climb, bend, stoop and stretch
  • Ability to repeatedly lift light objects and regularly lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes (i.e. coolers and outside in all seasons)
  • Ability to read fine print (i.e. driver’s licenses)
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules, various personalities, long hours or unusual circumstances
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule (primarily opposite Store Manager), including all shifts, weekends and holidays

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years on the job leadership experience in Quality Dairy or other similar business
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the required duties and responsibilities as well as follow through of policies, procedures and standards
  • High School Diploma or GED required - advanced education desirable
  • Possession of (or ability to earn) ServSafe (or equivalent) food handling certification
