Position Overview

QinetiQ US is looking to hire an experienced Software Engineer with expertise in in motion control and compensation relating to the control of electro-optical systems when mounted on mobile platforms, to support the development and integration of new electro-optical/infrar-red (EO/IR) sensor systems at our Fort Belvoir, VA customer location.

This position will support the Manned Vehicles Sensors Branch for the Ground Combat Systems Division at C5ISR, the premier organization within C5ISR center for the development of feasibility demonstrator systems for vehicle platforms in need of advanced sensing technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small team of engineers in the design and integration of motion control systems for motion compensation and stabilization of optical sensing systems integrated onto mobile ground platforms.
• Work as an individual contributor on the research and development of remote operation motion control systems as related to electro-optical sensing systems utilizing gimbals or other techniques of pointing a targeting and acquisition system. 
• Developing real-time control and analysis system-level firmware.
• Programming & control of hardware systems including motors and encoders, cameras, lasers, gimbals, etc.
• Lead the development of GUI interfaces which will control the operation of the hardware.
• Manage the documentation of the software architecture for use by others. 
• Various other Software tasks and responsibilities will be assigned, with an emphasis on spiral development, software integration with hardware test-fix-test experience.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related engineering degree.
• At least 8 years of experience in motion control systems implementation.
• Subject matter expertise in motion control and compensation relating to the control of electro-optical systems when mounted on mobile platforms.
• Experience leading the design and integration of motion control systems for motion compensation and stabilization of optical sensing systems integrated onto mobile ground platforms.
• Experience in the development of closed loop control systems.
• Experience with Configuration Management systems.
• Experience in the control of gimbals, mirrors, and other optical feedback loops.
• Familiarity with DOD/MIL standards and the military equipment acquisition and qualification process.
• Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams/Sharepoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Must be able to readily adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong self-starter requiring minimal supervision.
• Active DOD Secret or highe level clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's or higher level engineering related degree.
• Leadership/mentorship experience of small engineering teams.
• Knowledge and experience with ground combat vehicles and systems integration onto ground combat platforms.
• Digital image capture and image analysis experience is desired.
• Well-defined and documented data/source code organization is desired.
