Job Summary

Responsible for the planning, organization, staffing, and direction of the overall operation of the Nursing Services department to ensure the highest degree of quality patient care per all laws, regulations, and nursing care standards. Develops strategic plan, supervises nursing staff, coordinates health services, and manages the development and implementation of accreditation aligned policy in support of the comfort and wellbeing of patients.

The nursing staff provides care in the following areas: Medical Clinic, Women's Clinic, Sports Medicine Clinic, Allergy and Immunization Clinic, Triage, Extended Care Area, and Central Supply. Make decisions regarding recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations within the nursing department. Operates in a quad leadership structure with the Senior Director, Medical Director, and Business Services manager to ensure efficient operation of the clinical areas, including the most effective/efficient assignment of staff and suggestions for operational efficiency improvement. Develops, plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates patient-focused nursing care programs to ensure alignment with strategic initiatives to provide optimal care to patients and their support systems. Approve continuing education opportunities for nurses and medical assistants, coordinate peer review improvement projects, and initiate nursing policy/procedure updates. Collaborates with PUSH leadership, Positivity, Quality and Safety Committees, on quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient and team satisfaction, as well as on clinical initiatives to address patient care needs during times of crises or rollout of organizational initiatives. Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups and leadership, providing organizational information and representing the interests of the unit, patients, and their support systems. Remains current with ACHA recommendations and AAAHC standards.

What We Are Looking For

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from an accredited institution
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana and/or Compact State Licensure
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum of five (5) years of nursing practice to include two (2) years of nursing supervisory experience
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. For example, a Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years working in an outpatient clinic setting
  • Experience with employee recruiting, scheduling, staffing, and management of disciplinary issues
  • Experience in project management, and departmental leadership
  • Experience with IT communications (Purdue computing environment systems experience, Electronic Health Records, and auditing) including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred:

  • Experience with ambulatory patient care /college health experience

Skills:
Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of the scientific principles of general nursing theory and practice and the ability to apply them to optimize patient care
  • Ability to supervise and schedule nursing staff in a medical facility
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to handle urgent or emergencies professionally and timely
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups
  • Required skills include attention to detail and accuracy; Excellent organizational skills and leadership abilities
  • Ability to provide operational and educational guidance to all PUSH staff
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement principles
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations concerning infectious diseases and emerging public health concerns
  • Analytical reasoning to interpret and act on quality initiative data
  • Ability to participate in committee work (Health Center and University-wide) as appropriate
  • Ability to perform complex tasks independently with minimal supervision

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of human resource laws and best practices
  • Knowledge of electronic health records systems
