About the Role

The technology platform connecting children with outside the classroom educational enrichment activities, is searching for a VP of Engineering. You’ll join an innovative, mission-driven organization and be a foundational member of the Executive Leadership team. We are on a path to build a profitable, industry-defining company with solid economics and fundamentals that are strong.You'll be the most senior engineering leader - leading a team of 6 engineers across varying levels, one data engineer, as well as an offshore engineering team made up of 10. This position reports to the CEO.You will be working side-by-side with our engineers toward technical execution of our projects. You will also orchestrate the processes and systems necessary to empower the developers to deliver quality projects on time.The company was recently acquire and we are looking for a leader that is excited about working collaboratively within a larger organization. You will be responsible for helping the engineering team thrive inside a larger enterprise, post acquisition.You should be familiar with the in’s and outs of Ruby on Rails and full stack web development (HTML, JS, CSS/SASS, SQL). Our team has experience building products in C , PHP, Java, Python and Perl as well building mobile apps for iOS and Android in Objective C, Swift, and Java.ResponsibilitiesUse your deep expertise in Software Engineering to create and implement strong practices across multiple teamsManage day-to-day operations of the engineering teamManage the hiring pipeline for the engineering team as we scaleCollaborating with the leadership team to make strong architectural decisions and execute across our technology platformLeveraging agile practices to help the engineering team remove technical debt, and deliver value to our customersPartner with Design Product to deliver features and new products to match our company visionFoster collaboration, productivity and an engineering culture with the highest standard of expectations to maintain high standards of performanceBeing a strong role model with regards to work ethic, constant improvement, and cultural integrityDeep curiosity to understand provider problems and have empathy and desire to solve them; while fostering the same behavior within their teamRespects the role of their Product counterparts and believe in the importance of pushing each other to be betterSupports teams autonomy to operate in the areas they know bestAdept at assessing our current technology ecosystem, identifying pain points, and creating a plan of execution to fix what’s broken, while balancing against the need to deliver on enhancing and evolving our existing offeringsQualificationsBachelor’s degree OR 15 years of relevant work experience12 years of experience minimum10 years of SaaS software development experience, including experience in building products at scale.5 years people management experienceExperience working within a distributed remote organization, with strong written communication skills and comfort with modern collaboration platforms.Hands-on leader, comfortable working at all levels of the organization.
