Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Prior Authorization Specialist to join our team. As a Prior Authorization Specialist, you will be responsible for obtaining and processing prior insurance benefits and authorizations for medical procedures, treatments, medications, and office visits. Your role will involve working closely with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to ensure timely approvals and accurate documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Review and verify insurance coverage for medical procedures, treatments, medications, and office visits
- Obtain necessary documentation from healthcare providers to support prior authorization requests
- Submit prior authorization requests to insurance companies electronically or via phone/fax
- Follow up on pending authorizations and provide updates to healthcare providers and patients
- Communicate with insurance companies to resolve any issues or discrepancies in the authorization process
- Maintain accurate records of all prior authorization activities and documentation
- Stay up-to-date with insurance guidelines, policies, and procedures related to prior authorizations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure compliance with insurance requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree preferred
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 coding, and insurance verification processes
- Familiarity with managed care plans and prior authorization requirements
- Proficiency in using office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
