**Customer Service Representative - HME - FT - Days**
Sandusky, Ohio **Description** The Customer Service Representative receives and processes telephone, fax and walk in requests for home medical equipment, including respiratory related equipment. This may require work outside of the branch location to include physician office visitation/marketing activity to successfully attain necessary documentation for DME processes, training of physician office staff in processes or customer relations.
POSITION SUMMARY
Receives and processes telephone, fax and consignment requests for home medical equipment, including respiratory related equipment. May require work outside of branch location to include physician office visitation/marketing activity to successfully attain necessary documentation for DME processes, training of physician office staff in processes or customer relations issues which requires an on site visit.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Responds to telephone requests from patients & their caregivers, physicians, discharge planners and other health care professionals for home medical equipment and supplies, including but not limited to, respiratory therapy equipment, hospital beds, wheelchairs, enteral nutrition and oxygen services
2. Develop a professional impression of Caring Services DME through the use of knowledgeable, helpful and dependable behavior in all interactions with customers
3. Accurately and professionally elicits all necessary patient demographic, diagnostic and insurance information from referral sources.
4. Understands and communicates insurance coverage criteria for home medical equipment and relays any complications on a specific order to the referral source at time of initial order per Caring Services DMEs policies.
5. Enters complete and correct orders into the DME computer to ensure delivery of needed items to the appropriate location within the timeframe indicated by the patient a/o referral source.
6. Initiates and solicits paperwork necessary to support JCAHO mandates and corporate compliance, as well as Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance regulations.
7. Maintains ongoing knowledge and understanding of Medicare, Medicaid and insurance regulations and the Caring Services DME/PHS Corporate Compliance Plan.
8. Verifies available insurance benefits via phone calls or computer hook-ups with insurance companies.
9. In a timely manner, notifies Manager, or appropriate management substitute, of Financial Hardship requests or other Special Consideration cases.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Education: Must be high school graduate or GED
Skills: Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquires; requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to input and retrieve information from a computer. Must be able to communicate by telephone.
Years of Experience: Requires previous experience and/or training in a customer service field or retail sales.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
Years of Experience: Prior experience in a medical field a/o knowledge and experience with third party reimbursement policies is preferred.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
Physical Demands: May include long periods of sitting/standing. Must be able to move about the work station. Must be able to lift objects up to 20lbs.
