About Project Guardianship
Project Guardianship (PG) provides guardianship services for older adults and people living with disabilities and mental illness in New York who have been determined by a judicial proceeding to need help making decisions and have no family or friends able to assist them. PG's team approach employs attorneys, case managers, and finance associates to provide clients with services that allow them to be as independent and in the least restrictive setting as possible. Since 2005, PG has served hundreds of New Yorkers and has become a leading voice in a national, interdisciplinary effort to re-envision and strengthen guardianship policy.
Position Summary
Project Guardianship seeks a seasoned attorney with varied experience with different aspects of the New York State guardianship system to serve as its Chief Program Officer (CPO). In partnership with the CEO, the CPO is responsible for client programming and service delivery. The CPO oversees direct service staff and contributes to strategic planning and program development. The CPO will supervise two Deputy Directors of Case Management, the Deputy Director of Legal Services, and the Director of Benefits and Housing. The Chief Program Officer will also work closely with the Director of Finance and Operations to ensure proper management of client finances. The Chief Program Officer serves as a member of the leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting PG.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee day to day operations of client services.
  • Support client services staff, ensuring high quality service delivery.
  • Supervise department directors in monitoring the health and safety to PG clients and ensuring their legal, financial, and personal needs are met.
  • Lead teams to ensure timely submission of court-mandated reporting.
  • Lead process to transfer guardianship commissions from PG's parent agency, the Vera Institute, to PG.
  • Develop policies and procedures to streamline and improve client services.
  • Work with other members of the leadership team and direct reports to advance PG's mission, vision, and values.
  • Advance strategic goals and support strategic plan implementation.
  • Streamline documentation and reporting across all services.
  • Develop procedures for monitoring the quality and quantity of the services being delivered.
  • Promote communication and collaboration between all departments throughout the organization.
  • Manage, grow, and build PG's service delivery.
Qualifications
  • JD or MSW with 15 years' experience in social services and minimum 8 years in Article 81 guardianship.
  • Minimum 8 years' supervisory experience.
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams.
  • Experience overseeing large scale programs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Commitment to social justice.
  • Passion for working with older adults and/or people with disabilities desirable.
Salary
  • $130,000-$150,000 (starting salary commensurate with experience).
