Prodigy Preparatory Inc is Hiring a Teacher Near Philadelphia, PA

Position Summary:

The teachers at Prodigy Preparatory Inc are professionals who are deeply passionate about the individual capability of children to construct their learning. The teachers’ role is to support children in their explorations of the world in a gentle and nurturing manner. To make certain that teachers fulfill this mission, Prodigy Preparatory has created a culture of continuous professional development so that teachers can provide a high quality of care for all children and families in the school.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design the classroom’s overall organization, which includes but is not limited to teachers’ roles/responsibilities, schedules, lesson plans, classroom events and transitions.
  • Write the weekly/monthly pedagogical plan in collaboration with teaching team and education director.
  • Conduct project work sessions with classroom children.
  • Design, write, collaborate upon, and deliver observational notes, lesson plans, project folders and larger, school-wide events.
  • Conduct periodic formative and summative assessments of the children in the classroom.
  • Carry out the daily care of the child: greeting children and families during drop- off and pick-up, leading circle time, setting up provocations, implementing projects, changing diapers/ teaching toileting, body care and cleaning.
  • Conduct individual meetings with parents.
  • Provide parents continuous and specific information about their children’s educational, social and emotional processes in person during conferences and phone calls, and by writing the weekly journal.
  • Responsible for the organization of learning walks and activities outside the center.
  • Participate in research projects.
  • Meet regularly with the director to collaborate upon all aspects of one’s responsibilities and overall learning and care of the children and families of the classroom.
  • Collaborate with all staff members to ensure the best care for all children is met every day.
  • Work to create a positive, collaborative learning environment for all members of the school community.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work well in a team and enhance cooperative working relationships
  • Curiosity in people’s stories and ability to initiate and build relationship with a wide and diverse range of people
  • Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated capacity to work with urban families
  • Knowledge of public education, charter schools, and political landscape highly desirable but not required
  • Commitment to educational equity and excellence for all students
  • Fluent in speaking and writing Spanish a plus, but not required.

Education and Experience:

  • One to three years professional experience in organizing, politics, education, business development, social services or relevant field.
  • Postsecondary degree preferred, but not required
  • Experience with grassroots field organizing, including experience in door-to-door canvassing, political or issues campaigns, or leading a field organizing team a plus.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competency, and self-awareness with the ability to reflect and adapt to diverse environments
  • Experience working with families from diverse ethnic and class backgrounds
  • Team player who is a self-motivated “go-getter” with the ability to lead and motivate others
  • Proficient with Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel)
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem solver
  • Outstanding creative and strategic thinker
  • Superb at building relationships

Physical Requirements:

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as maneuvering in classrooms and office space-reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, and making phone calls; Must be able to sit for up to four (4) hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing.

Required Clearance:

FBI Fingerprint, Child Abuse Clearance, Criminal Background Check, Health Assessment (with one step PPD), Sex Offender Registry Clearance, CPR Certification is a plus

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
