Backend Engineer

Hybrid | Washington D.C. | 2-3 days a week Onsite

Summary

Our client is an employee and Service-Disabled, Veteran-owned Small Business focused on providing niche technical services. They are a team of experienced cybersecurity professionals with a track record of success in the Federal, Commercial, and Academic workspaces. Additionally, our client designs, builds, operates, and secures scalable cloud and IT infrastructures to meet their customers’ near-term needs and fulfill their long-term requirements.

Responsibilities

As a Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure that houses software, machine learning models, data, and serverless functions that support mission critical operations. You will build and manage CI/CD pipelines, implement and automate security best practices, optimize cloud performance and cost efficiency, and quickly troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues when they arise. You will alkso collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and deployments that abstracts away server management and environment configuration for data scientist and software engineering teams. Additionally, you will:

• Participate in architectural design discussions
• Help make decisions on changes cloud infrastructure as needed to accommodate changing user requirements
• Consider cost trade-offs of various cloud environment configurations and contribute to budget discussions

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, or related fields requiring extensive use of software development, or, equivalently, four years of demonstrated, practical experience in software development
• 4 years of Java, Python and SQL experience or certifications
• Experience with the Java Hibernate Object Relational Mapper
• Experience with containers (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

Preferred Requirements

• Familiarity and experience with the Intelligence Community (IC), and the intel cycle
• Ability to be on-site 60% of the time at a client SCIF located in Washington, D.C.
• Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with team members

Education/Certification Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, or related fields requiring extensive use of software development, or, equivalently, four years of demonstrated, practical experience in software development
• An AWS developer associate or higher certification is required

Clearance Requirements

• Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; an active TS/SCI clearance is required. Please be aware that onboarding can take 4-6 weeks for this position.
