    Cross Country Head Coach - High School
    REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
    JOB SUMMARY:

    Provide a learning environment that allows players to learn new skills and reinforce established skills to improve. The head coach of each sport has the responsibility of carrying on the sport in the best interest of the school district by adhering to the policies and regulations of the Pottsgrove Board of Directors, as well as the practices and procedures of the school administration. Further, each head coach should have a working knowledge of Pottsgrove High School and the rules and regulations of the Pottsgrove Athletic Department, Pioneer Athletic Conference and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Coordinate skill development, program philosophy, and equipment management.
    • Enforce P.I.A.A. and school policy for immediate staff.
    • Establish standards of safeguards against possible injury of athletes.
    • Provide leadership in delegating coaching assignments for all assistants.
    • Design and supervise practices and training sessions, establishing requirements for team members and ensuring their safety, including post practice/game supervision until athletes leave school property.
    • Distribute and collect P.I.A.A. and school eligibility forms as requested.
    • Perform evaluations of all assistant coaches and make recommendations for the hiring of new employees.
    • Attend P.I.A.A. rules interpretation meeting prior to the season and ensure coaching staff representation at the mandatory L-L League meeting.
    • Maintain records and prepare end-of-the-season reports, which include scores, recognition of athletes, and awards.
    • Collaborate with the Athletic Director on budgetary requests and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment.
    • Serve as the media contact person regarding the sport.
    • Maintain communications and a working relationship with the Athletic Director, coaching staff, and the booster club.
    • Maintain knowledge of current coaching trends by attending seminars, workshops, and in-service training sessions.
    • ?Ensure the building is secure after every practice session, which includes turning off lights and locking doors.
    • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or High School Principal.
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    High school diploma is necessary
    USATF Level One Certification preferred
    Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
    Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code) Nonresidents and Pennsylvania residents who have not resided in the Commonwealth for at least two years prior to the date of application for employment are required to obtain an FBI Criminal History Record
    Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Ability to reach above and below the waist
    Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
    Some crouching, crawling, stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting of the body required
    Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.
    Ability to mostly walk throughout the work environment with some standing and sitting
    SENSORY ABILITIES:

    Visual acuity
    Auditory acuity
    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Typical office environment
    Subject to inside environmental conditions
