Cross Country Coach MS
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide a learning environment that allows players to learn new skills and reinforce established skills to
improve. An assistant coach of each sport has the responsibility of carrying on the sport in the best
interest of the school district by adhering to the policies and regulations of the Pottsgrove Board of
Directors, as well as the practices and procedures of the school administration. Further, an assistant coach should
have a working knowledge of Pottsgrove School District and the rules and regulations of the Pottsgrove Athletic
Department, Pioneer Athletic Conference and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assist with instruct fundamentals of cross country track; assist participants with skill development physically demonstrating proper running technique. 2. Supervise athletes in the locker rooms before and after practice. 3. Ensure that all students are either picked up or are on the activity bus at the end of the practice session. 4. Maintain accurate records of physical examinations and ensure that emergency cards are on hand at all times. 5. Maintain accurate attendance and performance records for meets and practices. 6. Implement workouts with the intention of developing athletes’ abilities through the course of the season. 7. Develop goals for individual athletes at each competition based on their individual ability and level of progress. 8. Publicize meet results to the student body to positively reinforce athletes’ achievements. 9. Ensure that all athletes maintain academic eligibility.10. Maintain a supply of water and first-aid equipment at all practices and meets.11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma is necessary
Experience in field and track
Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code) Nonresidents and Pennsylvania residents who have not resided in the Commonwealth for at least two years prior to the date of application for employment are required to obtain an FBI Criminal History Record
Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to reach above and below the waist
Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
Some crouching, crawling, stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting of the body required
Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.
Ability to mostly walk or move through the environment with some standing and sitting.
