Portland Rock & Landscape Supply is Hiring an Assistant Manager Near Clackamas, OR

Assistant Yard Manager

SUMMARY
Organized, self-motivated, and flexible position is responsible for providing quick and efficient customer service and sales to retail and wholesale customers. Perform routine office duties, including using Quickbooks sales systems, taking orders by phone or email, directing delivery drivers. Assist Manager in maintaining scheduling employees and drivers, ordering product, product inventory, maintaining yard appearance, and directing work of yard staff. Must be able to handle all positions as needed, including operating heavy equipment and making deliveries in company provided vehicles. The ability to be flexible and be able to help where needed is key.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Training is provided in all areas, including equipment operation, point of sales systems, and making deliveries. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide excellent customer service in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Be able to perform all cashiering duties: using Quickbooks to create invoices, transfers, and purchase orders. Answering phones, recording sales, answer e-mails and phone messages, and all office equipment.
  • Deal with customer questions and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Safely and efficiently operate excavators, loaders, forklifts and other equipment required for sales activities.
  • Safely and efficiently make deliveries in non-cdl vehicles, including pickups, small dump trucks and trucks with trailers.
  • Display and demonstrate product using samples or marketing materials and promote saleable features.
  • Assist in preparing daily task lists and work with yard staff to ensure all task lists and checklists are completed.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and service.
  • Assist with paperwork as required for inventory tracking.
  • Monitor quality control in palletizing, yard organization and appearance.
  • Manage prep board orders to ensure orders are completed efficiently and on time.
  • Load and unload delivery trucks and customer vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor inventory stock levels and notify dispatch of restock requirements or reorder products as necessary.
  • Quote prices and correctly prepare sales orders and special orders for all products.
  • Determine dates and times of deliveries, ensure product availability and solve any delivery complications.
  • Investigate and resolve customer problems.
  • Attend trade shows and all special events.
  • Monitor quality loading, order preparation, and other yard functions.
  • Maintain sufficient knowledge of products to assist customers with selection answer questions.
  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Enter new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database as needed.
  • Attend regular sales meetings.
  • Perform periodic product inventory.
  • Assist in controlling inventory loss.
  • Assist in making sure all products are marked correctly and clearly.
  • Complete daily yard sweeps and pick up all debris.
  • Practice and promote yard organization and professionalism in all aspects of work.
  • Demonstrate company mission and values in all aspects of work.
  • Engage with co-workers in a positive manner promoting and building a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily. Training is provided in all areas including equipment operation, truck driving, and Quickbooks.

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED. Prior experience in management required.

Communication Skills Ability to correspond with customers on the phone or via email in a professional manner. Correct grammar and spelling is a must. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Skills Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift up to 90 pounds, climb and walk over rough terrain, work with sharp rock material and work with and around heavy equipment.

Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to hot, dusty, cold, and/or wet weather conditions.
The employee is frequently exposed to moving equipment, customer vehicles, and the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 45 per week
