About Portland Housing Center

Portland Housing Center is a nonprofit organization founded in 1991 with support from the City of Portland, local banks, and a concerned community. We were founded to ensure all Portland residents had equal access to information and resources to achieve homeownership. Today, we serve the entire state of Oregon. We specialize in providing first time home buyers with education, counseling, financial resources, and other home-buying support.

Position and Primary Responsibilities

PHC is seeking a Director of Development to join the organization! This is a newly created role within the organization and a critical member of the Executive Leadership team, reporting to the Executive Director. The primary responsibility of the Development Director is to meet the organization’s annual fundraising goal and to build long-term growth strategies through grant management, donor engagement, and fundraising. This position is responsible for creating marketing and outreach strategies across a diversified supporter base of individual donors, businesses, and foundations that cultivate donors at all levels of giving. This person will oversee all private donor revenue for the organization.

This position will have administrative and grant writing support and will collaborate with other teams within the organization to effectively translate the work and mission to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience running effective major gift and annual fund programs, possess solid project management and data analysis skills to ensure the implementation of effective systems and processes. They will represent the organization in the community, building relationships and navigating government agencies and moving the organization forward to reach more of the people we serve.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for annual giving, mid-level giving, and major giving programs to expand the donor base and increase engagement. • Oversee the creation and distribution of outreach materials (brochures, flyers, digital content) to communicate the organization’s mission. • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of outreach efforts using data.
  • Oversee the solicitation of major, mid-level, and annual gifts, ensuring compelling proposals and effective stewardship plans.
  • Track and report on fundraising activities, analyzing data to maximize impact.
  • Coordinate with other departments and ensure a unified approach to donor engagement and to capitalize on cross-promotional opportunities.
  • Ensure all fundraising activities adhere to legal requirements and ethical standards, maintaining the organization's integrity.
  • Lead efforts to diversify the donor base and create inclusive fundraising events and campaigns that resonate with a wide range of audiences.
  • Stay informed of fundraising trends and donor preferences and demonstrate proficiency in using Salesforce or other donor management and engagement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in individual donor fundraising with at least 3 years direct donor cultivation, team management and successful relationship building and solicitation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects with minimal supervision, showcasing strong initiative and self-direction.
  • Proven track record of successfully collaborating with cross-functional teams, including marketing, events, and donor relations, to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Experience in autonomously managing a portfolio of donors while also contributing to team-oriented strategies and goals.
  • Excellent team leadership with ability to be collaborative, resourceful and instill a culture of initiative, effective decision-making and problem solving.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with experience crafting compelling donor correspondence, grant proposals, and fundraising campaign materials.
  • Outstanding verbal communication abilities, including public speaking and one-on-one donor interactions, to effectively articulate the organization's mission and impact.
  • Strong active listening skills, with a proven ability to understand donor motivations and tailor engagement strategies to various audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex fundraising calendars and coordinating multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Adept at maintaining donor records for effective donor management and analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment, ensuring both short-term tasks and long-term projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficiency with office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook) and robust understanding of donor database software.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Driver’s license

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Non-Profit Management fundraising
  • Bi-lingual
  • Salesforce donor engagement platform
  • Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, or a related field
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) certification

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
