Portland Christian Schools is Hiring an Early Childhood Education Director (Preschool) Near Portland, OR

Portland Christian Schools is seeking a dynamic Christian Education leader to fill our Early Childhood Education Director position. 

Overview

The Early Childhood Education Program Director oversees the daily administrative and educational operations of the Early Childhood Education program. This includes the preschool, before and after school programs, and summer program. The Director is hired by the Superintendent and is approved by the Board of Trustees. The Director shall report regularly to the Superintendent and shall attend the monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees as requested. The Director shall maintain regular contact and good working relationships with the administrative team, PCS families, faculty, staff, students, and all related school organizations and vendors. The Director shall also handle all matters of concern and dispute relative to the ECE Program.

Spiritual Leadership

  • Maintain a vital, personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ through regular church attendance, personal prayer, and Bible study.
  • Actively hold forth the Mission, Vision, Core Values, Philosophy, and Goals of Portland Christian Schools as stated in the Board Policy Manual.
  • Model integrity, responsibility, maturity, and respect for those in authority, all staff, students, and parents.
  • Be a Christian role model for all staff, students, and parents.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

Administer and oversee general operations for the Early Childhood Program School in conformity with state licensing standards, including:

  • Oversee class scheduling, teaching load, and classroom balance
  • Create and manage the school calendar for the ECE Program
  • Coordinate ECE Calendar with other school events and activities including the elementary and secondary campuses
  • Supervise all school records: children’s, state, and staff
  • Supervise the production and regular review of the Parent Handbook
  • Prepare the annual ECE budget for submission to the Superintendent for approval
  • Actively participate in implementing and monitoring the annual budget and all Early Childhood program expenditures
  • Initiate and maintain appropriate communications from the school to parents to include newsletters, brochures, promotional materials, and email communications, consistent with school communications procedures
  • Prepare and deliver reports as required
  • Resolve conflicts among students/parents/community members/faculty and staff
  • Oversee all aspects of student discipline/training
  • Maintain the Child Care Management Software
  • Act as a liaison between the Early Childhood Program and all relevant groups, especially the elementary campus, the PCS Board, it’s committees and it’s Society members
  • Work cooperatively with outside agencies/professionals to ensure coordination of care of students (attend IFSP meetings, transitional meetings, etc.)

Lead, encourage, support and discipline ECE staff, including:

  • Program evaluation/accreditation, orientation and in-service presentations
  • Oversee and encourage staff professional development
  • Continually work with teachers to improve their performance
  • Initiate and maintain appropriate meeting schedule and communications with faculty and staff
  • Supervise office staff
  • Provide in-house conflict resolution, mediation, and reconciliation
  • Transmit faculty/staff concerns to the appropriate individuals or bodies
  • Encourage faculty and staff spiritual renewal and growth
  • Evaluate faculty and staff in accordance with the Superintendent’s expectations
  • Provide recommendations to the Superintendent for hiring and termination of faculty and staff
  • Develop and implement plans of assistance for faculty and staff as needed

Supervise programs at the Early Childhood Program, including:

  • Oversee all programs; authorize appropriate program changes
  • Keep abreast of legislative issues, specifically as they relate to licensing and accreditation
  • Oversee all curriculum, including evaluating, approving, and upgrading all curricular and supplemental instructional materials; authorize appropriate curricular changes in accordance with school policy
  • Oversee all activities, ancillary programs, extracurricular programs, trips, and transportation
  • Oversee parent education and information
  • Prepare and submit all accreditation reports as necessary to maintain accreditations
  • Conduct tours, interview families/students for admission, provide regular status reports to the Superintendent
  • Other responsibilities as necessary and proper for the fulfillment of the PCS mission, Vision, Core Values, Philosophy, and Goals as stated in the Board Policy Manual

All PCS employees are expected to fully engage in the stated mission of the school, "to educate students in the truth of God's word in every area of instruction and activity, so that their lives may be transformed by the renewing of their minds." Must be willing to sign the PCS Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Statement. A background check will be run after a preliminary offer of employment is made.

Qualifications

  • Oregon Registry step 10 or higher
  • BA/BS in Early Childhood Education or related field required / Master’s Degree preferred
  • Five or more years of progressively higher levels of responsibility in school administration and/or supervisory experience with a record of professional development and training in support of the position
  • Attuned to the developmental, social, emotional journey of children from 2 ½ years through age twelve
  • Possess planning, coordination, and supervisory skills to implement a high quality, developmentally appropriate program
  • Demonstrate knowledge of children and how to meet children’s needs
  • Possess excellent relational skills
  • ACSI Certification – required within 30 days of hire

  • Possess computer skills in internet navigation and usage, word processing, spreadsheet software, computer software applications to create, manipulate, edit programs
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak and write clearly and informatively
  • Must demonstrate skill in problem solving, time management, critical thinking, active listening, interaction and cooperation
  • Expected to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Must log and approve monthly time and attendance
  • Minimal travel required

Salary

$53,460 - 55,619.78 annually
