Position Overview

As a Business Development Officer I within PNC’s Business Credit organization, you will be based in New York, NY.
This position is primarily based in a location within PNC’s footprint. Preferred locations are listed in this requisition. Responsibilities require time in the office or in the field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities can be performed remotely. Additional locations may be considered.
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills with experience analyzing financial statements and overall business prospects, as well as preparing and presenting their findings to senior management. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to develop origination and deal execution skills alongside experienced bankers on the New York team, and work on various types of private equity and direct asset-based and cash flow transactions including but not limited to buyout, restructuring, growth and software financings.

Job Description

  • This is an early career position which provides the opportunity to work closely with a senior business development team responsible for new business origination and transaction execution. The BDO I will learn how to review and analyze new business opportunities across all industries, identify the appropriate PNC credit product for each situation, structure new deals, present to credit committee, and participate in the negotiation of deal terms. Additionally, the BDO will learn to pitch PNC to prospects, participate in sales calls and develop/manage a referral source list, all of which will provide exposure to prospects, private equity groups, junior debt providers, financial intermediaries, and other referral sources.
  • Analyzes financial, company and industry information on new deal opportunities to determine if the client's financing requirements meet PNC parameters. Identifies and mitigates different types of risk for new clients, such as operational, credit and regulatory risk. Prepares prescreen memos in collaboration with senior members of team for PNC committee review. Performs work in Excel and PowerPoint to support analysis.
  • Structures new deals in support of the senior business development team and develops comprehensive financing package to meet both client’s and bank’s needs. Works with other groups within PNC to deliver all banking products to the prospect such as treasury management, derivatives, foreign exchange, capital markets, and strategic advisory services.
  • Prepares term sheets, proposal letters and commitment letters. Participates in the negotiation of deal terms with private equity groups, intermediaries, and prospects.
  • Develops and maintains a network. This includes dialogues with sponsor groups, financial intermediaries, businesses, accountants, attorneys, consultants, and debt funds, as well as involvement with industry organizations such as ACG, TMA and other local/regional organizations. Gains proficiency in business development tools such as Pitchbook and Salesforce designed to maximize client contact and impact. Over time, maintains a steady prospect calling effort within assigned territory to develop and generate lead opportunities.

Work Experience


Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 3 years of relevant / direct industry experience. Certifications are often desired. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.

COMPENSATION

Base Salary: $55,000 - $135,200

Placement within the compensation range is based on the specific role and the following factors:

  • Individual salary may vary by geographic location / market data
  • Lower in range – Building skills and experience in the job 
  • Mid-range – Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role 
  • Higher in range – Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role
